Adeso, formally known as Horn Relief, is an expanding and vibrant African based international development and humanitarian organization. At Adeso, we work with African communities who are yet to realize their full potential; working inside these communities to create environments in which Africans can thrive. Our belief that economic, social and environmental security is the bedrock of a healthy community drives the nature and intent of our programming. We work to prevent and overcome situations that adversely affect community well-being by: reinvigorating the economy, developing skills for life and work, providing humanitarian aid, and influencing policy. For the past 20 years we have strengthened rural livelihoods through environmental awareness, training, technology transfer and innovative humanitarian projects in pursuit of a peaceful, self-reliant, and greener future. Currently, Adeso has programs in Somalia, Kenya and South Sudan. Our current donor portfolio includes the European Commission, USAID, SIDA, CIDA, UNICEF, and the Government of Netherlands, among others. Adeso is an exciting and dynamic organization experiencing managed rapid growth. It offers sound employment conditions with opportunities for personal growth and development.

SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifying new funding opportunities 1.1 Build up and maintain a solid understanding of Adeso (i.e. vision, mission, sectors, themes, approaches, programs, projects) and optimize the use of this information and knowledge in day to day fundraising activities. 1.2 Advise the Senior Management Team on, and take a leading role in, formulation of the regional fundraising strategy. 1.3 Keep up to date with national and regional donor policies, calls for proposals and application procedures. 1.4 In collaboration with colleagues in the region and the USA, identify and actively follow up potential funding opportunities with institutional donors, NGOs, foundations, companies and other relevant organizations. 1.5 Circulate information about all new funding opportunities to the Regional Program Director and other key internal contact persons. 1.6 Develop and maintain a database of donor information, including names, contact details, areas of interest, funding opportunities, specific requirements and historical data (e.g. previous relationship with Adeso, meetings held). 1.7 Act as a steward for regional donor applications and, in so doing, ensure that records of proposals, responses and other communications are kept up to date both in hard copies and on the shared (S) drive.
Managing the proposal development process 2.1 Lead or participate in writing proposals, including responses to RFA/RFP and project briefs to foundations, institutional donors and others. 2.2 Edit project concept notes and full proposals drafted by other staff members, paying meticulous attention to donor requirements and Adeso’s strategic priorities. 2.3 Submit concept notes and proposals to donors, having obtained the necessary sign-offs according to agreed internal procedures, and ensure that deadlines are met. 2.4 In liaison with other staff (e.g. Regional Program Director, Country Directors) prepare Terms of Reference for technical consultancy inputs to proposal development. 2.5 Oversight of the ‘income generation pipeline’ - keep track of tender and fundraising opportunities that arise, the progress of each application, workload spikes and bottlenecks, clashes and deadlines, and agree on workload allocations to ensure that all deadlines are met with maximum efficiency.
Building and maintaining donor relationships 3.1 Develop positive relationships with representatives of current and potential donors, supporting Senior Management Team colleagues including the Executive Director, Regional Program Director and Country Directors to do the same. 3.2 Ensure the coordination and collation of intelligence from all Adeso staff contacts with donors.
