Over all Objectives of the post
Based in Nimule Hospital in Magwi County, the Hospital Matron will have overall responsibility for supervising and monitoring the nursing services of the hospital. S/he will be part of a hospital management team that includes the hospital Medical Superintendent and Hospital Administrator.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervise and monitor the nursing activities in the hospital so that they are in line with acceptable national and international standards.
• Together with hospital administrator supervise hospital cleaning in the wards and the compound.
• Directly supervises and provides guidance to all departmental head nurses and ensures that nursing care activities and appropriate practices are carried out as per set guidelines.
• Provides weekly reports to the hospital medical superintendent on the allocation of duties and staffing so that available nursing staff is fully utilized.
• Ensure that nursing care services are delivered to satisfy patient satisfaction.
• Develop and supervise the implementation of an information/education system for patients and their families in collaboration with hospital medical superintendent and other senior hospital staff.
• Together with hospital administrator and department heads responsible for discipline of hospital nursing staff in consultation with the hospital management team.
• Training/coaching the nurses in the hospital to improve the current level of nursing practice and patient care.
• Organization and participation in the facilitating of in-service training for nursing staff.
• Ensure good professional working relationship between nurses and other hospital staff.
• Improve the level of respect and co-operation between nursing staff, doctors and other support staff.
• Conduct performance appraisals of department head as may be required according to the staff HR policies.
• Work together with senior hospital personnel and local authorities on revising and implementing standard nursing procedures in the hospital.
• As a member of the hospital management team actively participate in hospital management meetings.
• Together with the Public Health Officer responsible for designing and implementing procedures for preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the hospital environment.
• To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by his immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
• Qualified Registered Nurse /Midwife with at least 2-3 years working experience of hospital and ward management preferably in the Southern Sudan setting.
• Good communication, leadership and management skills.
• Capable for taking responsibility of overseeing good nursing care practices according to acceptable national and international standards.
• Experienced with training and capacity building of nurses and other nursing staff working within the hospital.
Desirables
• To be flexible as may be required.
• Fluent written and spoken English language.
• Primary health care training or experience is advantageous.
• Previous experience of working with an international NGO desirable.
