Summary of Position
IREX seeks a Sudan-based program director to manage a comprehensive three-year initiative to build the capacity of youth organizations in marginalized regions of the country. The program focuses on the role of youth in promoting peace and reconciliation, and including through activism and advocacy. It also involves opportunities to employ traditional and new media to address issues underlying conflict.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic and technical leadership, ensuring that all program objectives are met
Develop and maintain effective partnerships with youth organizations in target regions of Sudan
Design and manage delivery of capacity building programs for youth-focused organizations
Coordinate with project partners and other organizations active in related sectors
Manage and mentor project staff in Khartoum and regionally; coordinate with home office
Oversee project budgeting and monitoring, evaluation and reporting on program activities
Represent IREX publicly and support its organizational development
Skills and Qualifications
Substantial technical expertise in youth-focused development programming, including capacity building for youth organizations and peace-building and conflict resolution involving youth; additional experience in use of media tools preferred
Demonstrated success in senior level management of donor-funded development projects
Prior experience in Sudan strongly preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and work on a multi-national and multi-partner team
Ability to establish strong working relationships with Sudanese partners and stakeholders
Experience in working in complex, insecure settings; Willingness to travel within Sudan
Professional communication skills in English required; Arabic very strongly preferred
