Uganda Law Society (ULS) is a membership organization established by an Act of Parliament to provide services to its membership and the people of Uganda in general. Its vision is to excel as a professional body in the development of legal profession and promotion of justice in Uganda. Its mission is to improve the professional standards of members of the legal profession, and to promote human rights, and the rule of law, by assisting the Government and the judiciary in the administration and practice of law in Uganda for the benefit of the people of Uganda,
The Society is seeking for qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following positions;
4. ASSISTANT LEGAL OFFICER POSITION (1)
Duty Station - Masindi Clinic.
This position reports to the Legal Officer. Major responsibilities will include but not limited to;
• Interviewing, counseling and provision of general Legal counsel to clients.
• Drafting and preparation of Legal and Court Documents.
• Representing the Employer's clients in courts of law, mediation/arbitration proceedings and or other tribunals.
• Representing the Employer at forums and meetings with partners, etc. Formulation of articles for the Employer's Journals and newsletters.
• Preparation and submission of monthly Progress and Activity reports
• Maintaining proper and up-to-date client's records and files.
• Deputies the Legal Officer in the overall management and super-vision of the Legal Aid clinics where the in charge is away.
• Ensure proper use and care of all assets belonging to the Employer.
• Carry out any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director, Head of Department, Legal Aid Services and or any other superior/supervisor.

Job requirement
Person Specifications:
• LLB and having completed a post graduate diploma in legal practice
• At least having skills to conduct ADR.
• Ability to speak the local language (Runyoro) will be additional advantage
Key Competencies:
• Computer literacy
• Tested skills in ADR and advocacy.
• An open and result oriented approach to work
• Leadership, management and team building skills
• Good report writing skills
• Integrity, confidentiality and the ability to accomplish tasks promptly under minimum supervision.
