Purpose of the Job
The Driver/Mechanic is to drive and maintain BBC MA vehicles, collect and deliver people, goods and documents safely and efficiently to their destinations as per the instructions provided.
Person Specification - required knowledge, skills and experience
• South Sudanese national
• Diploma or certificate holder from a recognised Technical school
• At least three years relevant experience preferably in an international NGO
• Valid driving licence is a must.
• Knowledge of spoken and written English. Ability to communicate effectively in major South Sudanese languages will be an asset.
• Flexibility and willingness to work long hours, weekends if required
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
• Good personal recommendations
Main Duties
• Drive BBC MA vehicle to collect and deliver people, goods and documents to their destinations safely and on time as per the instructions provided
• Maintain the vehicle(s) in a clean and sound mechanical condition and ensure its safety at all times
• Ensure that the vehicle insurance is valid and report all expires at least three months in advance so as to facilitate timely renewal
• Oversee installation, operations and repairs to ensure that all vehicle services are complete and operate on daily basis.
• Place purchase orders for spare parts in a timely manner to keep the vehicles mobile.
• Schedule routine maintenance and keep records of services performed.
• Report any damage or defect on the vehicle and any occurrence of accident at the earliest possible time to the manager.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and troubleshooting inspections, evaluate conditions and determines extent of repair work to be performed
• Ensure that vehicles tools and spare wheel are kept in the vehicle and in good order at all times.
• Maintain and charge all batteries used for cars.
• Follow travel instructions and observe all traffic regulations/laws in place
