Olivier De Schutter (Professor, University of Louvain (UCL), Belgium) is looking for a
COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (Unpaid)
Part time: commitment of roughly five hours per week over two month period
Context
Prof. Olivier De Schutter is, since May 2008, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. Among his tasks, the Special Rapporteur is expected:
• To promote the full realization of the right to food and the adoption of measures at the national, regional and international levels for the realization of the right to food.
• To present recommendations on possible steps with a view to achieving progressively the full realization of the right to food.
• To work in close cooperation with all States, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as with other relevant actors.
Mission:
To build up a reliable database of media and stakeholders working in the food security arena in Africa and Asia, in order to strengthen the external communication capacities of the UN Special Rapporteur for the Right to Food.
Main tasks:
- Research the African and Asian media landscape in relevant policy areas (food, nutrition, agriculture, trade) in order to brief team members on priority national and regional media partners
- Create a comprehensive database of reliable media contacts (phone/email) in Africa and Asia, building on existing resources of the team
- Create a comprehensive database of key stakeholders in right to food policy-making, including national and regional politicians, civil society organizations, NGOs in Africa and Asia, for use in newsletter communications.
Skills and qualifications:
- University degree (obtained or in process), higher education or relevant professional experience, preferably in political sciences, development, journalism or communications.
- Highly proficient in English. Knowledge of French and/or African and Asian languages an asset.
- Rigor, proactivity, autonomy.
- Interest in promoting the right to food.
Location:
From home/ in liaison with team in Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium).
Starting date:
1st June 2012 (or as soon as possible).
