The purpose of this role is to provide direct output support to the Senior Manager: Brownfields Exploration in the development of standardized geological database structure and procedure as an input into geological model development.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:
- Development of a geological database structure and process to ensure the integrity of the Continental Africa Region's (CAR) resource modeling.
- Development of a sectional budget, in line with geology strategy.
- Building CAR's geological database capacity e.g. training, software analysis, and developments required for database enhancements, practices and procedures etc.
- Maintain effective working relations with internal & external stakeholders, suppliers and contractors, on a continuous basis to gain commitment to the achievement of short term objectives and improving the quality of service.
- Providing technical specialist support and advice through collateral and cross functional approaches on the formulation of geological database standards, guidelines and the application thereof.
- Consolidate all geological data into the geological database as a central depository.
- Reviewing the quality of CAR's geological data.
- Ensuring that geological data reporting is aligned with AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) standards and guidelines.
- Monitoring the progress of geological database enhancements as required by the Region and Business Unit against specifications stipulated for continuous improvement.
- Identifying geological database related risks and liabilities during the application of the geological database as it may result in the non-compliance for CAR.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A recognised Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Geology or Information systems/ Geographical Information Systems or equivalent.
- A minimum of 7 years' industry experience with databases of which a minimum of 3 years' experience should be with geological databases at a managerial level.
- A high level understanding of relational databases, e.g. SQL
- A thorough understanding of geological data practices and Quality Assurance, Quality Control (QAQC), mine geological practices (both exploration and mining)
