Launch a world class initiative in East Africa
Chartered in 1983, Aga Khan University (AKU) is a world-known and respected progressive organization that is committed to excellence in education, research, and community service. Occupying a central place in the Aga Khan Development Network, AKU provides higher education in nursing, medicine, and education development and carries out research pertinent to the countries in which it serves and the developing world at internationally accepted academic standards. Through a needs-blind admissions policy based on merit, the University imbues the most promising leaders and thinkers of tomorrow with an ethic of service and the skills to help communities solve their most pressing challenges while instilling the highest professional competence.
The University is now poised to add a Faculty of Arts and Sciences to its already impressive academic programming in East Africa, with a projected opening in 2016. Based in Arusha, Tanzania, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, East Africa (FAS-EA) aims to become a global institution of academic excellence with regional relevance. FAS-EA will enhance resilience in East Africa, specifically the capacities of local landscapes, communities, and institutions, to cope with the uncertainties and surprises of climate change, environmental degradation and globalization. In doing so, FAS-EA will also focus on pluralism in its multiple forms.
Responsibilities |
As the Founding Dean, you will have the unique opportunity to develop, launch and operate this world-class initiative. As the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer for the Faculty, you will be the architect of the facilities, infrastructure, curricula, and human resources, all of which will be critical to the development of liberal arts education in East Africa. The ability to travel and relocate initially to Nairobi, Kenya and ultimately to Arusha, Tanzania is required.

Requirements |
You possess a leadership track record as a Dean, Associate Dean, Department Head or other senior leadership role within a major, research intensive university and bring the vision and academic credibility needed to take on and build this faculty from concept to reality. A strong understanding of the complex dynamics emerging in East Africa will be beneficial.
