With support from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), PCI Tanzania is implementing Food for Education Project (FFE), Research study of new sorghum-based fortified blended foods in the Mara region as well as Satellite Assisted Pastoral Resource Management (SAPARM) pilot program in northern Tanzania.
PCI is now announcing a position of Logistics Assistant based in Dar es Salaam
To assist day to day Commodity logistics activities at PCI - Dar es salaam Office in order to ensure timely processing of documentation for importation and associated tasks including, Tax exemption, Port Operations, inland transportation, mandatory destination inspection and Lab analysis of imported commodities, follow up timely delivery of Clearing Agent and Marine Survey activities and general Logistics activities to support other Project activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the Supervision of Commodity Logistics Manager (ClM) to carry out the following activities:-
To scrutinize all Shipping documents from Cosigner to Consignee in order to ensure completeness and orderly as required by both Exporting and Importing Countries on a respective consignment basis.
To prepare Application documents for Importation. Submitting them to relevant authorities and follow up timely issuance of Import Permits from relevant Authorities i.e TFDA and Ministry of Agriculture
To prepare Tax exemption application documents, follow up endorsement of the same to line Ministry and subsequent follow up issuance of Tax exemption by TRA
Timely submission of Shipping documents to Clearing Agent and Marine Surveyor
Follow up of the following to Clearing Agent:-
Timely processing of Tax exemption documents through TRA's TANCIS system (After collecting Tax exemption document from TRA )
Timely bookings of Mandatory Commodity Laboratory analysis at TAEC, TBS and TFDA.
Timely collection of commodity samples during de-stuffing at Dar es salaam Port and to ensure that all documentations are in order to facilitate Laboratory analysis and future reference.
Supervision of vendors during Port operations (de-stuffing and loading of commodity for inland transport)
Communicate with inland transporter to ensure departure of Trucks from Dares salaam Port and delivery of commodity to PCI Central Warehouse as per agreed time line.
Ensure that all trucks that are brought by transporter to the Port for inland transportation meets all required standards for carrying food commodities i.e hygiene, safety, and are fee from any contamination
Follow up from Marine surveyor to ensure daily, weekly and Final Marine Survey Report are prepared and submitted as per agreement.
Crosscheck all Invoices and other documents for any claims submitted by Commodity Vendors before submitting them to Commodity
Logistics Manage?
Delivery and collection of various documents to and from various Institutions as instructed by ClM and PCI Country Office
Carry out other general logistics activities as directed by CLM to support Project logistics activities as will be communicated from PCI Country Office, Regional Offices and Site Offices.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum' of Diploma in the following:-Freight Clearing and Forwarding Management; Customs and Tax Management; Transport and logistics Management; International Supply Chain and Logistics Management;or any other relevant qualifications.
At least minimum of 2 years continuing experience of working in freight clearing and forwarding activities especially in a busy and complex environment.
Knowledge of software applications particularly ERP or Web-based commodity management system.
Previous experience of working with US Government funded Projects, especially through USDA or USAID is an added advantage.
Registered / Certified by Chartered Institute of logistics and Transport (CILT – International)at a Member level or above is a clear advantage.
