Duration of contract: Initial contract of 1 Year with possibility of
renewal based on performance and funding availability.
Main Purpose of the Job:
Under the direction of the Deputy Secretary General-Political Federation, and the supervision of the Principal Political Affairs Officer, the Interim Coordinator will provide quality services to ensure timely and efficient development, coordination and implementation of programmes at Nyerere Centre for Peace Research.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate the implementation of the Five Year Strategic Framework for the Centre within the EAC Development Strategy;
2. Develop training modules and coordinate capacity building training programs that will contribute to enhancing regional integration, good governance, protection of human rights, peace building and development;
3. Provide support in formulation, implementation and evaluation of programmes and the Strategy as a whole.
4. Undertake the operational management of the Centre taking charge of strategic planning and development of reports and presentation to Policy organs;
5. Ensuring the delivery of the assigned programme resources against approved budgets;
6. Organize support and facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, symposia and capacity building training programs/projects under peace and security and political affairs;
7. Carry out training programmes to sensitize youth and students’ community in the EAC Universities;
8. Coordinate and facilitate activities of the EAC Youth Ambassadors’ platform and EAC Youth Clubs at universities;
9.Supervise and coordinate students’ training and internship exchange programs in collaboration with regional institutions of higher learning in the region;
10. Develop and initiate programmes by drafting project proposals, establishing partnerships and networks with likeminded organizations;
11. Implement Centre’s activities in accordance with EAC Rules and Regulation procurement procedures, contracting of services and formalizing partnership;
12. Support the EAC programmes on good governance and perform other duties as and when required in the sector.
Qualifications and experience:
• The ideal candidate should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, law or social development or equivalent related field with professional experience and significant training in conflict/peace studies and research.
• Minimum of 5 years experience with in middle management and/or coordination capacity with experience in strategic planning, budgeting and finance;
Skills and competencies:
• Project formulation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, fundraising and proposals writing skills. Ability to establish, network, and collaborate with likeminded organizations, institutions of higher learning, corporations and individual.
• Knowledgeable in the general area of youth engagement, good governance, human rights and conflict management. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, diplomacy and team work.
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills with ability to prioritize. Excellent written and oral communication skills with public speaking.
• Computer proficiency in Micro-Soft office environment including word processing, email and internet.
Terms and conditions of Service:
This post is donor funded and is a non established position whose contract terms are limited to the period of support. It may be renewed subject to performance and extension of the funding. The post offers an attractive consolidated remuneration package.
