Country Director in Tanzania at Feed the Children

Reports to:Regional Director, Africa Regional Office in Nairobi/Sr. VP International Programs, US Office
Provides supervision to All program, administration and finance staff and community development facilitators in the Tanzania country team
Feed the Children (FEED), a non-government organization implementing program activities in the fields of Food & Nutrition, Health & Water, Education and Livelihoods, is seeking to fill the position of Country Director (CD) to work in the FEED Tanzania Office.
Purpose of the Position
To provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the FEED country programs and operations in Tanzania.
Scope of Work
The CD will be responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the FEED program activities and operations in Tanzania towards achieving organizational vision, mission and promise. The CD will be charged with leading the programmatic and operational management and represent FEED at government, local and international levels and overseeing implementation and review of the country program strategy. Responsible for promoting resource mobilization & fundraising initiatives and exploring partnerships for running of programs and sustainability. S/he is responsible for overall financial and human resources within the country operations.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and decision making in every aspect of work.
  • Develop and periodically update the strategic plan for FEED Tanzania.
  • Ensure FEED programs and operations in Tanzania are aligned with regional and global organization priorities.
  • Build a culture of accountability in the country team.
Fund-raising and resource mobilization
  • Together with the resource mobilization team, develop concept notes and proposals to increase the funding base to ensure programs are fully funded.
  • Develop networks, collaboration and good working relations with government agencies, appropriate church bodies, NGOs and other actors in Tanzania to identify partnership opportunities and ensure acceptance of FEED programs.
  • Ensure retention of existing donors in order to support program continuity.
  • Assist program staff in initiating development activities that are locally/communally funded and sustainable.
Programming
  • Oversee the effective implementation of FEED programs in Tanzania.
  • Together with program staff, improve the quality and effectiveness of existing program activities in line with FEED vision and mission.
  • Responsible for program monitoring and evaluation, explore available opportunities and give recommendations for new or enhanced program areas in other viable regions of Tanzania.
Management
  • Effectively manage budgeting, monitoring and controlling program expenses for all programs.
  • Effectively lead all human resource management matters in Tanzania.
  • Ensure timely reporting to donors and the US Office that are accurate and in compliance with donor requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies.
  • Ensure timely internal and external communication.
  • Cultivate professionalism at all levels of work.
**Staff developmen****t
  • Offer individual guidance on staff development as part of an ongoing staff evaluation.
  • Promote an atmosphere of shared learning.
  • Set evaluation measures to ensure improved staff performance
Required academic, education and experience
  • Bachelors’ degree in rural development, social sciences or relevant field, Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of the principles & practice of community development, including the use of participatory development techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in program design, proposal and report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability and potential to grow country program scope and funding sources.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience managing or working with US grants.
  • Proven experience managing transformational and sustainable program approaches.
