Job purpose:
The producer/journalist is an experienced, creative and dynamic individual who understands BBC editorial standards and how to implement them in programme output. The producer is responsible for accessing content from journalists of the partner stations, selecting and inviting studio guests and working closely with the presenter and senior producer to realize the content vision of the programme.
The national producer is entrusted with producing a programme of high editorial and technical quality. Together with the senior producer he/she will encourage the partner stations to rebroadcast the national programme thereby, promoting it to their audiences for added impact.
Required skills, knowledge and experience
• Gathers and verifies factual information for weekly topics through interview, observation, and research.
• Organises material, determines slant or emphasis, according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Works cooperatively with the production team on assigned stories, if one is assigned.
• Assist the presenter in preparing the weekly episodes of the programme.
• Assist production staff in preparing content for the show’s multimedia platforms.
Desirable but not required skills
• Experience in behaviour change communications projects, preferably in the health, governance or resilience/livelihoods sectors.
• Prior experience with internationally reputable Swahili broadcaster.
