Radio Communication Technician , Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

RADIO COMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN 

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania is looking to employ a Radio Communication Technician. The role will report to the Instrumentation Foreman and will be responsible to optimally maintain the Motorola Radio and Leaky Feeder Communication network to a high degree of quality, quantity and cost. 
The incumbent must ensure downtime is kept to a minimum through prompt actions and direction from the Instrumentation Foreman. The work roster for this role is 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off. 

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Ensure the Radio equipment is properly maintained and set up correctly to effectively support the operation. 
• Ensure that the necessary records and paperwork are correctly completed for capture either through the PM system, written and filed or captured and stored in the Instrumentation Database. 
• Support the PLC and SCADA programmer to effectively support the operation. 
• Ensure the Instrumentation Foreman is advised of parts to be ordered. 
• Support improvements to the Radio Communication System to improve operational results. 
• Use data reporting expertise to maximize value generation through analysis of data collected by the Diagnostics network. 
• Provide operational troubleshooting support to identify and correct Radio Communication problems. 
• Set a standard for all Mobile Radio’s frequencies. 
• Attend all compulsory training that will enable proper reaction if confronted with an emergency. This includes any courses external to the company with official regulatory boards. 
• Maintain the library containing all drawings, vendor manuals, calibration and programming procedures. 
• Continually self develop and keep up to date with current technologies. 
• Implement maintenance projects that will address any current or future improvement opportunities. 
• Maintain a culture where all abide by the company’s code of conduct regarding security and regulatory procedures. 
• Maintain the work environment, tooling, support, spares and documentation to ensure ease of maintenance, trouble shooting and repairs. 
• Set up and maintain an update on the Diagnostics Radio/Leaky feeder System. 
• Advise the Supervisor of any projects which can add value to the business, and then support the implementation of such projects to ensure successful improvements. 
• Ensure the annual budgeted operating time is achieved through high Radio communication availability of the equipment. 
• Work with and train Instrumentation Technicians to maintain and repair Radio Communication 
• Maintain a culture of cost awareness and achieve cost reductions through effective maintenance and repairs. 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 

Education Requirements: 

• Relevant qualification related to the role 

Experience Requirements: 

• Sound experience with a heavily Leaky Feeder Radio Communication in an industrial environment. This includes Fiber Networking and Leaky Feeder Diagnostics Programming and control networks. 
• Experience in Various Motorola Radios 
• Experience in Comms Analysers, including fault finding 
• Ability to read and understand Engineering and Mining drawings 
• Experience in MLA,MSA, MLAD,MSB,FPC and FCL4 MRS Equipment 
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills 
• Effective communication skills
