HME MECHANIC - DRILLS 

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania is looking to employ an experienced HME Mechanic - Drills. The incumbent will report to the HME Foreman and will be responsible to assist the Mining Production and Development Drilling Teams to meet their targets by having drilling equipment maintained to a predetermined level of availability and reliability and to ensure that preset engineering and planned maintenance KPIs are achieved. The work roster for this role is 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off. 

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Properly maintain and test underground drilling machines to OEM standards on equipment such as: 
o Single Jumbo Drill Rigs 
 Sandvik Face Nudie 
 Sandvik Face DD210 
 Sandvik DS311 
 Sandvik Face DD210V, etc. 
o Double Jumbo Drill Rigs 
 Sandvik Minimatic H205D 
 Sandvik Axera DD420-40 
 Sandvik Axera DD420-60 
 Sandvik DD421-60 
 Sandvik DD321, etc. 
o Long Holes 
 Sandvik DL210-5, etc. 
o Diamond drill machines 
• Overhaul and rebuild drilling machines to OEM standards 
• Ensure all Planned Maintenance schedules are followed to suit production and the overall mine’s requirements and standards 
• Carryout over-inspection for work done and correct or report any defects that require proper planning to correct to the supervisor 
• Diagnose and solve equipment breakdown faults swiftly at good workmanship and short or reasonable time 
• Occasionally carry out maintenance on trucks, loaders and utility fleet to OEM standards 
• Provide accurate and detailed records of work done and backlogs required to restore machines to standard to the supervisor on a daily basis 
• Assist to monitor the performance of machines and suggest recommendations to improve performance or reliability of the machine 
• Work within all BGML Safety rules and regulations 
• Train and guide nationals to perform assigned tasks to OEM standards 
• Assist in upgrading the National workforce through succession planning 
• Maintain equipment availability and reliability by assisting in minimising equipment breakdowns / unplanned work and preparing and maintaining parts on hand 
• Make sure a high standard of quality workmanship is maintained 
• Test equipment when it is completed to ensure that the unit is in proper condition 
• Assist planners and schedulers to create work orders and schedule equipment for follow up repairs, if required 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 

Education Requirements: 

• Relevant Trade/ FTC certificate from a recognized institution 

Experience Requirements: 

• Sound experience in maintenance of underground drilling equipment and trackless operations 
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams 
• Ability to adapt to changing maintenance strategies without affecting quality of workmanship 
• Extensive knowledge of Sandvik machines 
• Extensive knowledge in drilling machines from world class OEMs such as Atlas Copco, etc. 
• Ability to identify, organize and execute assigned tasks in a safe and risk free manner 
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently 
• Experience working in a developing country will be an advantage 
• Ability to train and pass on knowledge.
