Manager of Corporation and Foundation Relations

MISSION STATEMENT
Motivated by Christ's love, this position plays a key role in promoting the symbiotic ministry of Food for the Hungry through the framework of the organization's Corporate Identity. God called and we responded until physical and spiritual hungers ended worldwide. In order to accomplish this vision, Food for the Hungry seeks to walk with churches, leaders and families in overcoming all forms of human poverty by living in healthy relationship with God and His creation. This ministry philosophy statement is described internally as the Vision of Community (VOC).

SUMMARY
The Manager of Corporation and Foundation Relations is responsible to create and operationalize strategies for securing corporate partnerships with medium and high-capacity US companies and/or foundations. Among others, the activities of this position this will include research, analysis, opportunity identification, assembling and leading a grant team, project and relationship management, resource gathering, grant writing, grant tracking and reporting. The Manager of Corporation and Foundation Relations is also responsible for relationship development, reporting and consistent communication required to maintain and expand current relationships will US companies and/or foundations.

Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:

Key Result Area #1: Lead strategic planning for securing corporate partnerships with medium to high-capacity US companies and/or foundations. (55%)

  1. Develop a strategic plan for securing corporate or foundation partnerships.
  2. Identify 6-10 medium to high-capacity US companies or foundations that give internationally (to be called “Tier One Foundations”) and fit FH programming criteria (HIV/AIDS, agriculture, health, water/sanitation, education, etc.).
  3. Research the Assess Tier One Grant Opportunities to and assess corporate and foundation medium to high-level grant opportunities to create recommendations for two year strategies for approaching each.
  4. Network with other NGO agencies and other cooperative organizations to gather information on best practices for generating Tier One Foundation medium to high-capacity corporate or foundation funding.
  5. Establish short-and-long-range priorities for Tier One Foundations corporate and foundation engagement, in close collaboration with the Director of Health Programs and the departments of Major Donors and Workplace Giving.
  6. Create and develop contacts with staff and decision makers at Tier One Foundations medium to high-capacity corporations and foundations.


Key Result Area #2: Operationalize strategic plan to pursue potential Tier One medium to high-capacity corporate and foundation grant opportunities (35%)

  1. Participate in team-based evaluation of Tier One Corporate and Foundation strategy, approximately six months after start date.
  2. Coordinate with key FH leaders, board members, RPD staff and field leaders to facilitate appropriate relationships with Tier One Foundations’ Corporation and Foundation decision makers.
  3. Assemble and lead grant development teams in order to design programs and submits proposals, customized per foundation criteria.
  4. Maintain ongoing communication with program staff around the world regarding project information, proposals and reports.
  5. Write cover letters, complete applications and obtain supporting documents in order to submit grant proposal packets.
  6. Track proposals sent, funding status, reports required, relationship strategies, follow-up needed and foundation deadlines.
  7. Continue to research and update strategic plans on a regular basis.

Key Result Area #3: Support private corporation/foundation grant proposal writing and major corporation/foundation donor communication needs (10%)

  1. Participate on grant teams in order to submit proposals and reports, customized per corporation or foundation giving criteria.
  2. Maintain ongoing communication with program staff around the world regarding project information.
  3. Create proposals, reports, budgets, cover letters, and supporting documents for corporations and foundations and major donors foundation grants.
  4. Respond to communication support needs of FH President, Board Members, RPD staff, Senior Leaders and Major Gift Officers, as prioritized by the Director of Health Programs.

  • Physical demands include traveling as much as 15 to 20% of the time, primarily domestically. Some overseas travel to developing countries may be required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively (in verbal and written form)
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, and other applicable media tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and be highly organized
  • Multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to sit at a computer for 8 hours a day doing repetitive motions on a keyboard
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to create budgets and budget narratives
  • Comfortable in communicating with people from other cultures whose first language is not English

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred, but on the job experience considered in lieu of a master’s degree.
  • At least three years of experience developing and maintaining relationships with US corporations and/or foundations.
  • Two years successful grant writing experience.
  • At least two years establishing a network of companies and foundations interested in funding non-profit, Christian development work highly desirable.
  • Two years successful grant writing experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
