Job Summary:
Reporting to the Africa Regional Director based in Nairobi, the Kenya Country Director will promote the IIRR’s mission and provide overall leadership oversight of Kenya Programme activities both at the National and local levels. S/He will ensure that all organizational operations pertaining to staff, finances and other resources are conducted efficiently and effectively. S/He will serve in the Global Leadership Team, thus work in collaboration with the Region, Headquarter, other Country Directors, CBOs, CSOs, private sector and the government of Kenya. S/He will represent IIRR’s interest in local, regional and international forums.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership, management and planning of the Kenya Country Programme by providing direction in line with the Country business plan, with emphasis on program expansion;
- Establish and maintain sound partnerships and participate in networks, collaborative activities, with relevant CBOs, CSOs, private sector entities, and government.
- Identify new opportunities for funding and, working with the Regional Staff in accordance to IIRR policy to develop appropriate concepts/ proposal responses;
- Initiate local trainings, national courses, customized courses and collaborative trainings linked to IIRR Applied Learning thematic programs in Kenya;
- To recruit, hire and supervise staff of Kenya program and conduct performance and individual work plan review;
- To organize and direct staff in the development and implementation of Operational plans to reach country program goals and objectives including conducting of program review meetings;
- To provide leadership and oversight to all financial activities of the IIRR Kenya Program in accordance to IIRR operating procedures;
- To ensure accountability by submission of accuracy and timely financial and narrative reports to Africa Regional office and Headquarters and other appropriate donor agencies in the disposition of all donor funds.
Minimum Education, Skills and Abilities:
i. Master’s Degree in the fields of Agriculture, Development Studies, Business Administration or other related fields. ii. A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience. iii. Minimum Three (3) years management level work. iv. Knowledge of income and expense budget preparation and monitoring. v. Proven team leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to train and work cooperatively with a diverse staff, including field staff in several locations. vi. Experience with the NOG/PVO approach, and knowledge of global sustainable development essential; Sensitivity in working with multiple culture and beliefs, and to gender equity. vii. Ability to foster and maintain a spirit of unity, teamwork, and cooperation among all personnel.
