HelpAge’s programmes in Tanzania are focused on reducing the impact of HIV and AIDS on older people and their families both; raising the profile of older people in society, and making sure their voices are heard by local authorities; strengthening the position of older women, so they can claim their rights and fight back against abuses such as witchcraft accusations; improving older people's incomes and fighting malaria by providing mosquito nets and education. HelpAge is looking for a Programme Director in Tanzania. He/she will be responsible for the development, management and administration of HelpAge International’s programme in Tanzania, and promote the development of a national capacity to meet the needs of older people and contribute to the Africa region development.
The post holder will have considerable experience of managing a diverse programme of development work including resource, financial, personnel and information management as well as demonstrated experience of preparing donor proposals and reports and liaising with donors to attract new funding. Proven ability to develop and implement longer term, strategic plans and a strong team leader are essential for this role. Strong communication, negotiating and influencing skills, fluency in English and excellent IT skills are also essential for this role.
