Organization Description
Akilah is creating a new model of education for young women in Rwanda by providing training that is a
direct response to the needs of the business community. Our initial diploma programs
will provide young women with the skills and experience to become leaders in the
hospitality industry, a rapidly developing sector of the economy. The 2-year Hospitality Management Diploma
emphasizes leadership development, market relevant skills, and entrepreneurship.We are developing Diplomas in Business Management & Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Agriculture.
We are currently located in the capital of Kigali but we will relocate to Bugesera district in 2012 after we have
finished renovating our new campus (see www.AkilahInstitute.org/campus for more information). We will have a total of 110 students at Akilah in January 2012.
Position Description
We are seeking a passionate individual to work in a full-time capacity with Akilah students as their spiritual advisor as well as academic counselor, as these fields often overlap in this context.
Counselor would:
(1) work with each student individually in order to help ensure their emotional and spiritual well-being as well as academic success;
(2) help each student identify the barriers to their personal and academic achievements in order to help them overcome them and improve their overall performance; and
(3) eventually grow into a formal Chaplain role.
Counselor will:
(1) report directly to Executive Director;
(2) have a strong record of spiritual or academic consulting experience; and
(3) be able to efficiently structure and administer this counseling program, to include student files, records of progress and reporting.
Applicants must be fluent in Kinyarwanda and English.
