POSITION: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Chemonics International, a Washington DC based consulting limn, seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time Communications Officer position for the Technical Management Agent for Civil Society Fund (CSF TMA) project. The purpose of the CSF is to bring together multiple donor funds and disperse grants to civil society that are aligned with national plans and decision taking processes and enable an effective, scaled up, and comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS and OVC. The TMA Project works in close partnership with the CSF Steering Committee (SC), Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC), Financial Management Agent (FMA), Monitoring and Evaluation Agent (MEA), and other key partners within the CSF. The role of the CSF TMA includes building technical and institutional capacities of the CSF sub-grantees; strengthening the operations of the CSF; providing technical support for the monitoring and management of CSF grants; establishing effective and transparent partnering mechanisms within !, the sub-grantees; strengthening technical and institutional capacities of sub-grantees to plan, manage, coordinate and improve delivery of quality services.
This position is based in Kampala, Uganda and requires relevant work experience and appropriate educational background, as outlined.
Position Description and Required Competences:
The Communications Officer has the responsibility of planning, prepar-ing and producing materials geared towards the promotion of CSF. The Communications Officer will ensure professional documentation and broad dissemination of success stories, best practices and lessons learned in HIV/AIDS and OVC program implementation to key stakeholders, particularly the Government of Uganda, development partners, the Civil Society, networks of people living with HIV/AIDS and the general public. The Communications Officer is responsible for writing, editing and supporting the production of project reports and other print and online materials including newsletters, brochures and the CSF website. It is also the Communications Officer's duty to maintain and promote the CSF brand.
Responsibilities/Duties:
1. Develop and maintain electronic and physical documentation and filing systems for important project documents, deliverables and references.
2. Maintain and update the communications calendar.
3. Update photograph archives.
4. Manage contacts lists including sub-grantees, CSF partners, and media contacts.
5. Review and update CSF sub-grantee profiles.
6. Regularly review and update the content of the CSF website.
7. Coordinate the production and distribution of CSF communications materials, such as newsletters, brochures, fact sheets and other materials to internal and external stakeholders.
8. Assist the Communication Specialist to:
• write success stories highlighting the achievements of CSF and its sub-grantees.
• edit CSF publications, including reports and presentations.
• maintain and promote the CSF brand.
• provide technical support to sub-grantees to improve their communication skills.
• track media articles relating to CSF and update management on such.
Reporting:
The Communications Officer will report to the Communications Specialist.
Job requirement
Required Experience and Academic Qualifications:
The proposed candidate must have:-
1. A qualification in communication at degree level.
2. Minimum of 2 years experience in communications management, and stakeholder reporting preferably in the health sector.
3. Previous experience working in a media house.
4. Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
5. A strong capacity for analysis and information management.
6. Excellent analytical, evaluation and report writing skills.
7. Ability to take initiative and be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft environment and Photoshop, with good typing skills as an added advantage.
9. Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
10. A team player with excellent planning and organisational skills.
