Agronomist, Mozambique
We are currently seeking a long-term Agronomist for the Farmer Income Support Program based in Quelimane, Mozambique. The project aims to control the spread of coconut lethal yellowing disease (CLYD); improve the productivity of coconut growing; and encourage diversification into other staple and cash-crop production. The Agronomist will be responsible for the following activities: monitoring the procurement and ensuring best practices in the replanting of all green tall variety coconut seedlings; identifying cash crops and nutrient-rich crops that can be intercropped with coconut seedlings to maximize farmer productivity and revenues; ensuring that field-based trainings are being incorporated by communities at the farm level; supporting community-based activities; and liaising with staff to ensure that quality control methods are used.
Qualifications: •At least five years’ experience leading agronomy activities in a development context. •Field experience with farmers’ associations and private enterprises in Nampula and Zambezia provinces. •Fluency in English and Portuguese.
