SUMMARY The FXB Center, School of Nursing, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) works successfully with global organizations, national ministries of health and implementing partners for the development of sustainable, outcome-driven healthcare systems. Services include technical assistance, materials development, strengthening human resources for health, operational research and community engagement in the fields of HIV prevention, care and treatment, family planning, infant and young child feeding, tuberculosis and related areas. FXB-Tanzania office, located in Dar es Salaam, is a division of the FXB Center and a legal subsidiary of UMDNJ. The FXB-Tanzania office was established with the aim of providing direct, local technical assistance to the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) Unit of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW) in Tanzania, in its efforts to scale up and strengthen PMTCT services. The FXBTanzania Country Director provides in-country leadership and ensures the overall success of the country program, under direction of the Newark-based Tanzania Principal Investigator. The Country Director will strengthen relations with government and other partners and will lead development of the Tanzania office and the process of establishing FXB-Tanzania as an independent NGO in Tanzania.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as high-level in-country representative of the FXB Center in Tanzania. Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant government and donor agency officials, non-governmental, bilateral and multilateral agencies involved in HIV and related disease prevention, care, and treatment.
• Provide leadership to ensure FXB Center’s effective contribution to Tanzania’s HIV-related goals and objectives and promote the regional identity of the FXB Center.
• Support the Newark-based Principal Investigator in developing the annual Tanzania work plans that set aggressive annual milestones and are responsive to the needs of the HIV/AIDS community in Tanzania and the goals of the funding agencies.
• Provide supervision, support and capacity development to the FXB-Tanzania team in Dar es Salaam.
• Lead implementation of workplan activities in Tanzania, ensuring high-quality and timely completion of activities..
• Provide technical assistance to the FXB Center team in developing, producing and revising curricula and other capacity building materials, including assisting with the clinical accuracy and cultural appropriateness of such documents; create a dissemination plan for distributing documents.
