SSG Advisors is accepting applications from qualified private sector engagement specialists for an anticipated horticulture project in Tanzania. The project will focus on facilitating investments and solution deployment to help drive transformation in Tanzania’s horticulture sector. In particular, the project will aim to enhance livelihoods and incomes for small-holders, increase value across priority value chains, increase climate change resilience and adaptability, and improve nutrition.
Responsibilities
The Horticulture Technology & Innovation Partnership Advisor will lead the development of public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives and activities in the horticulture sector with a particular focus on new technologies and innovative business models. S/he will explore, implement, and advocate for opportunities to engage the private sector, public sector, and community groups. S/he will provide technical expertise on PPP issues, such as the development of strategies for outreach to the private sector. Also, s/he will represent SSG Advisors on public-private sector issues at technical, policy and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with collaborators and donors.
The Partnership Advisor will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:
Identify, assess, and recommend potential private sector partners and partnership opportunities, particularly focused on technology and innovative business models;
Provide technical leadership for the design, formalization, and management of innovative public-private partnerships;
Support the development of innovative financing tools to promote investment in sustainable horticultural enterprises;
Provide technical assistance to project stakeholders relative to the structuring of PPPs and outreach to the private sector;
Maintain a database of public-private partnership activities;
Coordinate with other donors, local organizations and Tanzanian government structures, particularly community leaders, to ensure harmonization of PPP activities;
Develop and implement outreach strategies to the private sector.
Qualifications
Graduate degree in Agricultural Economics or other relevant discipline from an accredited university;
At least seven (7) years’ experience working in the East Africa region, preferably in Tanzania;
Extensive experience in agribusiness, preferably in horticulture;
A proven ability to identify high-value partnerships with the private and public sector stakeholders and to leverage private investment;
A proven ability to work collaboratively, lead negotiations, and reach a consensus among several private and public sector stakeholders;
Ability to work independently and effectively within tight deadlines;
Experience designing capacity building events and facilitating training sessions for a variety of audiences;
Native or bi-lingual proficiency in written and spoken English;
Native or bi-lingual proficiency in written and spoken Swahili.
