The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) seeks to recruit a Research Associate for its Taking Maize Agronomy to Scale in Africa (TAMASA) Project in Ethiopia. The staff will be member of CIMMYT at its Ethiopia office in Addis Ababa.
General: The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is an autonomous, non-profit making, international scientific organization operating under the aegis of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). More specifically its mission is to encourage, support and undertake activities to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of maize and wheat systems in the interest of the resource poor in developing countries.
Main duties & responsibilities:
Research support responsibilities:
- Designs, implements and manages multi-location agronomic trials;
- Coordinates with stakeholders in the field and follow-up with partners;
- Collects agronomic data, analyse and write report;
- Collects soil samples from implementation sites;
- Collects relevant secondary data;
- Procures inputs required for experimental and other related purposes;
- Takes lead in writing technical reports and preparing power point presentations;
- Provides training to staff of partner institutions.
Project support responsibilities:
- Assists in establishing and maintaining contacts with collaborating organizations and partners;
- Assists in organizing project and stakeholder meetings;
- Assists in developing work-plans and budgets for collaborators and partners;
- Supports the country project coordinator in overall management of the project;
- Any other duties and miscellaneous tasks as required and as assigned by the country project coordinator from time to time.
Minimum Requirements and Desirable Skills:
Education:
- MSc in Agronomy, Soil Science or related fields.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in a national/International Organizations,
- Practical experience in agronomy or soil fertility management researches.
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of relevant administrative and/or operating protocols and policies of the function,
- Good skills in using SAS, or any other software packages,
- Basic knowledge of administrative and/or operating protocols and procedures of research support function,
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and advanced internet skills,
- Proven supervisory experience.
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Position level: 2D.
Minimum Base salary: Birr 19,078 per month (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate).
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on site.
