The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Associate in Veterinary Epidemiology for the Animal Science for Sustainable Productivity (ASSP) program who will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
General: ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animal alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases.

Main duties & responsibilities:
• Co-ordinates and participates in animal health field work related to epidemiological surveys in small ruminants;
• Strengthens day-to day interaction with national partner institutions;
• Collates research outputs of national research partners;
• Contributes to data management, data analysis and reporting;
• Organizes trainings and workshops for research output dissemination;
• Supports the herd health team leader with day to day operations.

Minimum Requirement:
Education:
• Veterinary medicine with MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology

Experience:
• 2-3 years’ experience in implementing epidemiological projects

Training:
• Veterinarian with specialisation in veterinary epidemiology

Skills:
• Strong background in epidemiology or a track record in epidemiological projects;
• Experiences in working with NARS and clinical experience are an advantage;
• Skills and experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis;
• Research communication skills or experience with communication and popularisation of scientific outputs;
• Collaborative skills, ability to work in multi-cultural teams, excellent oral and written communication skills (English);
• A sense of creativity and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Monthly Base Salary: Birr 19,078 (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.
