Job Summary
The assignment is a co-operation between the Tabora Regional Referral Hospital (Kitete), CARE Canada and CARE Tanzania as part of the Tabora Adolescent and Safe Motherhood (TABASAM) project in Tanzania. The TABASAM project is working to safeguard women’s reproductive health before pregnancy (Family Planning and Health Awareness), during pregnancy, childbirth and through the immediate postnatal period.
The Tabora Regional Referral Hospital (Kitete) is looking for support from skilled and experienced Health Professionals to support their maternal health services. As a regional referral hospital, Kitete handles a heavy load of deliveries and complications. This Volunteer position is a unique opportunity to work as an integral part of the medical staff to improve health care delivery system at the hospital and support to health clinics throughout the region.

Responsibilities:
• To assess the Tabora Regional Referral Hospital maternal and child health services and practices including management, administrative practices, quality and health information;
• Develop plan in conjunction with CARE and Kitete Hospital staff to strengthen the maternity ward, and,
• To build management, administrative and patient-care capacity in the maternity ward of the Kitete Hospital
Working Conditions:
Our comprehensive Volunteer training and support covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, providing the necessary resources to enjoy a safe and healthy environment during your assignment. As a CARE Volunteer you will be provided:
• A CARE Canada Overseas Volunteer pre-departure training in Ottawa, Canada
• A CARE Tanzania briefing upon arrival in Dar es Salaam
• An orientation by the CARE office upon arrival in Tabora
• Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training
• Return airfare and visa/permit
• Accommodation arranged for Tabora
• A modest living allowance
• Ongoing CARE Canada and CARE Tanzania (Dar es Salaam and Tabora) supervision and support during the duration of your Volunteer assignment
Education & Certifications:
• Appropriate Canadian midwifery accreditation from a professional association
Minimum Education Level: Certification
Minimal Requirements:
• At least 4 years of relevant professional experience with at least part of it in clinical practice
• Ability to train and coach other health workers
• Experience in managing or supervising staff
• Experience managing high-risk pregnancies and complicated deliveries
• Experience in family planning and mother and child health care
• Capacity to live in a rural and remote location
Desired Traits:
• Knowledge of STDs, HIV/AIDS, and/or prevention of mother to child transmission protocols
• International travel/work experience particularly in Africa
Experience Level: Intermediate Level
Language Skills:English (Fluent in Speaking, Reading, Writing)
Authorized to Work in: Canada
