THE ORGANIZATION
John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a US-based technical assistance firm, is implementing various public health-related projects in Tanzania aimed at strengthening the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s (MOHSW) service delivery, with funding from United States Government through USAID, CDC and other US agencies represented in Tanzania.
The Supply Chain Management System (SCMS), MCHIP and USAID|DELIVER PROJECT are implemented under United States Agent for International Development (USAID) contracts through funding from United States of America government (USG). These projects managed in Tanzania by John Snow, Inc. (JSI) provides quality medicines, strengthens and establishes secure, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable supply chains, capable of meeting the prevention, care and treatment needs of people of Tanzania including those living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
JSI Tanzania field office seeks to employ a dynamic and self oriented person to work as Project Accountant under the guidance of Senior Project Accountant, the position will be based in Dar esSalaam.
TITLE: Project Accountant (1 Position)
REPORTS TO: Senior Project Accountant
LOCATION: Position based in Dar es Salaam
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Project Accountant will provide financial and operational support to the projects through processing payments of various activities and day to day financial management.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
May include, but are not limited to the following:
§ Review and approve travel expense report claims.
§ Review all invoices to ensure compliance with all USAID and JSI financial management and accounting policies and regulations.
§ Manage communication with vendor on submission and payment of invoices.
§ Review zonal office monthly expenditure claims and manage zonal office cash flow.
§ Prepare monthly cell phone recharge.
§ Do QuickBooks data entry/receipts vouchers in the system as necessary.
§ Prepare, process and reconcile payments using mobile money
§ Ensure a regular communications with Office Manager and Procurement Specialist for all financial related matters.
§ Assist with the distribution of per diem payments during field activities.
§ Support the JSI finance and accounting unit with all other tasks as assigned.
§ Engage in financial and related tasks as required by the project management.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Applicants for this position should be Tanzanian nationals or lawful residents who possess the following minimum qualifications:
· Bachelor degree in accounting.
· Minimum 5 years of accounting experience.
· Experience with QuickBooks accounting system
· Excellent verbal and written English.
· Ability to take initiative and work in teams.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
· Experience with a USAID-funded project is strongly desired.
· Ability and willingness to travel within Tanzania if required.
· Must be able to maintain confidentiality for all project and staff proprietary matters.
*The Project Accountant will work under the guidance of the Senior Project Accountant or a designated Supervisor.
