Shift Boss Tanzania-Shinyanga Region-Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ a Trainer/ Shift Boss. The successful incumbent will provide leadership and direction to the operational mining team to ensure compliance with safety, environment and security standards, and optimize safe production at minimum cost. This position reports to the Mine Captain and will be on a rotational basis of 8 weeks on and 4 weeks off.

RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Lead the shift personnel to work safely at all times, and develop and promote a safe and healthy work environment
• Ensure all personnel are aware of BGML safety and environmental policies and procedures, and ensure compliance at all times
• Ensure all Operational Safe Work Procedures are adhered to at all times
• Establish clear lines of communication with Maintenance personnel to ensure machinery operation is optimised at all times
• Provide effective on the job training and coaching to ensure all employees, including Trainee Shift Bosses and Gangers, gain new skills and achieve their maximum potential, and take appropriate action when substandard performance or behavior is observed
• Assist to achieve and sustain production targets
• Mentoring the Tanzanian Trainee Shift Bosses/Gangers

PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

Education Requirements:
• High School Certificate or Intermediary

Experience Requirements:

• A minimum of 5 years experience as a production shift boss including:
o Jack leg (Rock Drill) installation of ground support, development, stoping and raising
o Operation of Scraper Winch
o Knowledge of Diesel LHD’s
o Knowledge of Underground Timbering
o Mine planning and equipping
o At least 3 years in a supervisory role
• Development and construction experience with project work will be advantageous
