NBR, a nonprofit policy research organization, is seeking a Senior Project Director in its Washington, D.C., office to manage and develop projects on Asian security issues such as alliance relationships, military modernization, maritime security, terrorism, nuclear nonproliferation, and non-traditional security. Project Directors support business development at NBR through the generation of revenue from concept development to fundraising; identify new research areas and develop conceptual frameworks for projects, including extensive policy outreach and briefings; manage project teams; and create and pursue business opportunities in coordination with group leaders. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.
Responsibilities
- Developing and managing NBR projects on Asian security issues – such as alliance relationships, military modernization, maritime security, terrorism, nuclear nonproliferation, and non-traditional security
- Developing and maintaining relations with U.S. Government contracting and grant-making agencies, as well as with foundation and private sector sponsors, to create and secure funding opportunities
- Representing NBR in Washington, D.C, to sponsors and stakeholders from the government, corporate, and academic communities
- Supervising and motivating teams of assistant directors, project managers, project associates, fellows, and interns to achieve specific project objectives
- Managing project activities on schedule and within budget
- Designing and coordinating conferences, workshops, presentations, and briefings
- Designing and coordinating substantive research assistance for project teams and scholars
- Reviewing publications; designing publications production and distribution plans
- Participating in and supporting other NBR activities as needed
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have excellent entrepreneurial, management, and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Also required are: substantive expertise on a wide range of Asian political and security issues, excellent language skills in one or more Asian languages; an outstanding educational and professional track record, including substantial experience briefing senior government and industry leaders and in writing and preparing proposals and background briefs, and utmost integrity and discretion.
Professionals with a track record of successful policy research, project management, and business development experience, a Master's Degree in a relevant discipline, and 10+ years of relevant professional experience, are encouraged to apply.
