The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications consists of the Division of Human Health, the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, the Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences, and the IAEA Environment Laboratories. Each Division is organized into various Sections. The Division of Human Health is organized into four sections whose objectives are to enhance the capabilities in Member States to address needs related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems through the development and application of nuclear techniques within a framework of quality assurance. The Dosimetry and Medical Radiation Physics Section (DMRP) is one of four Sections in the Division of Human Health. It is responsible for quality assurance (QA) and metrology in radiation medicine. The Section works closely with clinical colleagues located in the Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy Section and in the Nuclear Medicine Section. Specifically, DMRP provides technical support in medical physics to ensure safe and effective applications of nuclear technology in radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. It operates the Dosimetry Laboratory (located in Seibersdorf), which is the central point in the IAEA/World Health Organization Network of Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratories. The Laboratory provides two types of service for Member States: dosimetry calibration, and dosimetry auditing and verification. |
