TERMS OF REFERENCE
Purpose of Assignment:
These terms of reference (TOR) have been written to guide the identification and selection of a consultant to design a report on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting.
Background
The publication will provide a global assessment of FGM/C levels and trends, and examine differentials in prevalence according to socio-economic, demographic and other proximate variables, including type of FGM/C, practitioners and attitudes. The study will include estimates at the global level, as well as a descriptive analysis of the main findings at the national/regional levels and by background characteristics (age, place of residence, household wealth, etc.). The analysis will finally highlight patterns that exist within the data, illustrate how much can be learned by disaggregating variables, and suggest how these data can be used to strategically inform programmatic efforts. The publication will include data for all the 29 countries where FGM/C is believed to be widely practiced. The final report will be approximately 150 pages in length. Since the report will be data-driven with many graphs/tables, it is very important that the design will produce a creative and visually appealing final product.
Objectives and End Product:
The consultant will be responsible for the design and layout of the final version of the report. The end product of this consultancy will be a well-designed and laid out PDF file of the report.
Duration: The assignment will start on the 5th of December 2011 and end on the 30th of January 2012.
Key skills, technical background, and experience required: Excellent design and layout skills on the technical aspects of UNICEF’s monitoring work. Ability to produce a creative and visually appealing final product. Good knowledge and interest in working on the issue of female genital mutilation/cutting. Prior experience with the production of UNICEF dissemination material is desirable.
