SENIOR TRAINING OFFICER- UNDERGROUND MINING
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The UG Mining Senior Training Officer shall work hand in hand with Training Officers and
Trainer/Assessors, help and guide them to achieve the following:

• Build relations and constantly consulting the Mining department to identify training needs
(TNA) for UG Mining crews.

• Plan and prepare training (i.e. duration, venue, material, and participants).

• Conduct scheduled training – theory and practical.

• Evaluate training and assess for competency.

• Conduct safety audits and follow up

• Review training modules with the implementation of new procedures, new equipment, new
systems and new standards.

• Responsible for underground training stopes (safety and training of trainees and production),
supervising drilling, blasting and haulage operations ensuring safe and healthy wok practices
are followed.

• Provide input into the continued enhancement of competency based training session plans,
materials, subject matter execution and assessment of training in order to build a consistent
supply of competent workers for the Mining Department.

• Coach and mentor employee’s in their development and ensure a consistently high level of
training is achieved. Ensures that employees under their control gain new skills and achieve
their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring
programs.

• Closely monitor the progress of training participants to ensure satisfactory performance
results.

• Maintain effective training records, in co-ordination with other training staff, to ensure
information is available in a timely and effective manner.

• Provide training and support to ensure that employees comply with safety and environmental
standards that exceed industry practice and any applicable Tanzanian legislative
requirements.

• Plan for refresher training in the above.

• Improve present performance.

• Prepare employees for a renewal of government blasting licenses.

• Compile monthly training reports, records and have it ready for inspection.

• Record trainees’ time while training.

• Record, file and maintain a proper database of all employees training records.

• In liaison with the Training Administrator, issue certificates to successful candidates.

• Conduct job task observation to gauge trainees understanding at the job site.

• Carry out internal investigation into work related injuries.

• Take part in the Bulyanhulu’s Localization/Succession plan by identifying and developing
high potential Tanzanians who can assume higher responsibilities.

To carry out any other relevant duties as assigned by the Training Foreman.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL

Education Requirements:

Certificate IV in Training & Workplace Assessment; and a
Moderation Certificate.

Experience Requirements:

Experience in the Mining Industry with at least seven years involvement
in the continuous operation of a gold mine or similar industry.

SECURITY OPS COORDINATOR


African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking to employ experienced Security Coordinators to oversee the effective functioning of the Operations/Process Plant within the laid down Standard Operational Policies & Procedures. The position reports to the Security Superintendent and is fly in / fly out on a 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off roster.


KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


• Coordination of resources/logistics so that security services are delivered in a timely, effective, efficient and professional manner
• Keeping in line with and monitoring departmental KPI's used to assess operational effectiveness
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to prepare various reports with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Committed to abiding by and implementing the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
• Ensure all staff under-go formal training on the Use of Force and Voluntary Principles and that they all adhere to the Barrick Guidelines on the Use of Force and Voluntary Principles
• Report in writing all instances of non-compliance or incidents classified as a major breach of security, involving damage to mine property or a risk to safety to the Security Superintendent/Manager
• Contribute to the development of an effective security strategy for BGML to ensure maximum protection and response capability to deal appropriately with any threat to BGML’s operations
• Contribute to the development of and implementation of measures to ensure that the security team complies with BGML’s policies and procedures to deliver best practice in security and risk management
• Implement and evaluate employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and take appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour
• Liaise closely with regulatory authorities including the police to ensure that any losses and criminal activity affecting BGML’s operations and business are reported, investigated and dealt with appropriately
• Able to provide guidance, counsel and support to an employee base drawn from diverse backgrounds and cultures as well as an ability to work with and among Tanzanian’s drawn from a variety of social, demographic, religious and cultural backgrounds


PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

Education Requirements:


• Relevant Degree/ Diploma
• Military/Police training to the level of non-commissioned officer

Experience Requirements:


• Working knowledge of security matters in the mining industry
• Working knowledge of security management, investigations, surveillance and administration
• Sound supervision knowledge of managing a security subordinates
• Exposure to operations in remote sites and in developing countries
• Thorough communication knowledge with all levels of individual and communities
• Exposure to verbal and written means of communication and reporting
• Previous experience in Africa or similar environment
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership and management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team of security officers to achieve planned objectives
• Significant experience in dealing with conflict situations

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ an experienced Security Systems Coordinator. The incumbent will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and support of all surveillance systems at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Maintain the required standard with regards to all Surveillance Network, Software and Hardware support and maintenance
• Identify and analyze poor performance of the surveillance system and repair and replace surveillance equipment
• Ensure high availability of surveillance equipment and ensure security standards are adhered to
• Ensure the necessary reporting functions for Security Systems are adhered to
• Ensure all Gold Security Standards related maintenance schedules are adhered to
• Identify security risks to all systems and rectify such
• Ensure the security system’s integrity is maintained
• Liaise with all Security Role players and MIG to ensure that the CCTV system functions to the advantage of any events/ actions that may affect the security of the site
• Committed to abiding by and implementing implementing the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER
Our Buzwagi Mine based in the Shinyanga Region in Tanzania, requires a suitably qualified and experience Senior Environmental Officer who will be responsible for the implementation and management of the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) as well as providing specialist advice, assistance, education and training to enable line management and contractors to achieve accountability for environmental management. This position will report into the Environmental Superintendent and is worked on a FIFO 6/3 week roster.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Reviewing and updating the EMS Database.
  • Management and monitoring environmental compliance with respect to environmental obligations register and implementation compliance.
  • Environmental obligations compliance monitoring, review and update.
  • Developing and reviewing Site environmental awareness training needs.
  • Actively participate in a succession planning and mentoring programme amongst the Environmental team that ensures that PML commitments to the Tanzanian government with repoect to the development department employees.
  • Provide input into solving problems on site with environmental implication and coordinate the development of strategies for their long term management.
  • Provide professional and technical support to employees and contractors to ensure that operating practices comply with environmental best practice.
  • Participate in responsible and relevant discussions oriented towards seeking solutions to environmental problems with public and government organizations.

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ a Trainer/ Shift Boss. The successful incumbent will provide leadership and direction to the operational mining team to ensure compliance with safety, environment and security standards, and optimize safe production at minimum cost. This position reports to the Mine Captain and will be on a rotational basis of 8 weeks on and 4 weeks off.

• Lead the shift personnel to work safely at all times, and develop and promote a safe and healthy work environment
• Ensure all personnel are aware of BGML safety and environmental policies and procedures, and ensure compliance at all times
• Ensure all Operational Safe Work Procedures are adhered to at all times
• Establish clear lines of communication with Maintenance personnel to ensure machinery operation is optimised at all times
• Provide effective on the job training and coaching to ensure all employees, including Trainee Shift Bosses and Gangers, gain new skills and achieve their maximum potential, and take appropriate action when substandard performance or behavior is observed
• Assist to achieve and sustain production targets

We are currently seeking for dedicated, self motivated and highly organized Mine Investigations Group Coordinators to primarily work at a specified site and additionally there may be opportunities to work on other sites or locations within Tanzania to investigate, detect and prosecute persons committing criminal acts against the employees or assets of the company, and to assist the site to implement appropriate strategies to prevent future losses.
The overall key objectives for this role include:
As a qualified security professional, the MIG Coordinator will be responsible for the conduct of assigned security investigations at mine sites within Tanzania, under the direction of the Mine Investigations Group Manager.
The position will include a requirement to work closely with other functional areas such as the Site and Corporate Security Managers, Global Internal Audit and external investigators as may be appointed from time to time by the Office of General Counsel, ABG.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Conduct of criminal and other security investigations.
o Conduct other investigations as directed by the Mine Investigations Group Manager.
o Provide high quality written assessments and reports.
o Contributes to site and regional training and mentoring of subordinate investigators.

· Understanding and/or experience in gold mining or extractive mining processes.
· Kiswahili language skills would be an advantage.
