Acacia Mining seeks to employ an Underground Mining and Geotechnical and Fill Specialist based at North Mara Mine in Tanzania. This role reports to the Mining Manager and the role holder will be responsible for the planning, project delivery and operational control of all aspects related to the geotechnical performance of the underground Gokona mine.
This is a fixed term contract role, with the work roster being six weeks on and three weeks off.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Holistic operating optimization pertaining to geotechnical issues developed in consultation with all customers.
• Development of mine fill notes and control of all QAQC systems.
• Ensure total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines and applicable laws.
• Generate and complete CPORT scopes for sign off on projects assigned.
• Implement the standards for the Underground Mining Department geotechnical projects and be accountable for the standards being met for all outputs.
• Be involved in the project budget preparation activities within the Underground Operational Team and be accountable for the timely delivery of the required outputs.
• Coordinate detailed execution plans for all projects and be accountable for the efficient and effective application of the plan to ensure the timely completion of project works.
• Be accountable for management of contractor costs, including engagement of contractors, management of contracts and contractors, accruals and clearance of claims and invoices for payment.
• Be accountable for the final sign off on any projects upon completion and handover to operations.
• Liaise with the Technical Services and Operations personnel to ensure buy-in from the end users.
• Prepare regular reports (weekly/ monthly) regarding project work progress as required.
• Ensure that project milestones are achieved on time and to scope (qualitative & quantitative).
• Projects include:
o CAF systems setup including all QAQC systems
o Review current Geotechnical performance and develop design parameters
o Develop operating geotechnical systems and monitor
o Mining sequence review
o Binder trials and optimization
o CAF contract management and reviews
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements:
• Degree in Geology/Geotechnical Engineering related studies
Experience Requirements:
• 10-15 years’ experience in Mining, including at least 5 years in Underground Mining (large scale mechanized), and 5 years in a Geotechnical and Backfilling role.
• Establishing and managing underground fill systems including optimization projects.
• Capital project management experience.
• Development and maintenance of Operational/Capital Budgets.
• Developing, maintain and optimizing underground openings performance through geotechnical systems.
