SNV’s work in the Agriculture sector focuses on the world’s 500 million smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, who produce 70% of global food supply. SNV offers a suite of innovative solutions for smallholders, addressing systemic challenges in four themes: Sustainable Markets, Food & Nutrition Security, Climate Smart Agriculture and Women and Youth in Agriculture. We work across a range of commodities, with a particular focus on dairy, livestock, horticulture, cassava, oil palm, coffee, cacao, and rice.
The Role
The role of the Global Sector Coordinator in the thematic area of Food and Nutrition Security is to (1) strengthen SNV’s global position (2) develop new business for SNV (3) provide TA to selected SNV projects as per project contracts (for 50% of time) (4) ensure quality of delivery of running projects (5) lead SNV’s thematic team, develop innovative solutions and coordinate learning and (6) maintain and expand SNV’s relations and partnerships with key thematic players.
This position reports to the Managing Director for Agriculture and works in close collaboration with the Country Directors, Country Sector Leaders, Marketing and Business Development teams and the Global Agriculture Sector team.
Key responsibilities
- Leads global agriculture strategy development with a focus on the food and nutrition security thematic area;
- Secures new business for SNV by providing sector information, market- and donor intelligence, supporting proposal development, and conducting proposal technical quality reviews;
- Provides TA to selected high profile projects as per donor contracts;
- Ensures high quality of delivery of ongoing projects by supporting and coaching country teams;
- Ensures achievement of sector performance benchmarks;
- Leads SNV’s Food and Nutrition Security thematic team, develops innovative solutions and coordinates learning;
- Maintains and expands relationships and partnerships with relevant thematic players;
- Represents SNV at key international events;
- Works with HR on recruitment and staff development;
- Provides thematic contents to SNV’s Marketing and Business Development team.
Candidate’s Profile
- Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline e.g. agriculture, agribusiness, environment;
- Proven track record with over 10 years of experience in the sector in an international, multi country context, including advisory work and knowledge development;
- Expertise and experience in Food and Nutrition Security;
- Focus on quality and driving for continuous improvement of deliveries in the sector;
- Proven experience in Business Development;
- Strong interpersonal and influence skills and experience of working effectively in a matrix organisation;
- Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills, presentation and debating skills with experience in profiling an organisation in an international setting;
- Strong international networks within the agricultural sector;
- Sound experience within knowledge development, organisational learning and innovation;
- Entrepreneurial, result-oriented and driver for change.
Languages: Proficient in English. Fluency or working knowledge of French and or Spanish is an advantage
