ABOUT THE JOB:
In order to better serve its clients, FINCA is expanding its product offerings by exploring the best models for further expanding its services in the areas of Energy, Sanitation, Education, Agriculture, among others. FINCA is looking for a Social Enterprise and Financial Innovation (SEFI) Volunteer to assist the VP for Social Enterprise and Financial Innovation (SEFI) analyze the current opportunities in social businesses that are most needed by low-income clients.
In working with VP of Social Enterprise & Financial Innovation, the SEFI Volunteer will play an important role in helping transform FINCA into the next generation, where it will offer enhanced products and services that are beneficial to our existing clients, as well as those people not currently served by FINCA. The vision is that in the longer term, FINCA will not only be a leading microfinance company but a company that provides appropriate products and services to enhance the lives of the poor. In this process, we will seek to develop innovative product offerings where we leverage our financial and distribution capabilities to further the mission and enhance our social impact.
This assignment is a 3 month commitment of 4 days a week at 20-30 hours per week. This position is eligible for remote working.
Responsibilities:
- Support Vice President with the identification and assessment of new investment opportunities, including completing screening memorandums on prospective debt/equity deals;
- Conduct background research/investment due-diligence on social enterprises and perform in-depth financial analysis;
- Develop expertise and professional relationships in the social enterprise sectors such as Energy, Sanitation and Education;
- Support the VP on strategic initiatives, drafting concept notes, position papers, and assist in managing a broad range of strategic relationships; concisely frame decision points on complex issues and transactions.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant experience in financial services, development finance, management consulting, venture capital or private equity;
- Expertise with financial modeling in Microsoft Excel is preferred;
- Passion for social impact investing and working with bottom-of-pyramid clients;
- Enthusiasm for the mission of FINCA International;
- Entrepreneurial spirit, good team-player, self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines;
- An effective communicator, both written and oral;
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with multicultural contacts;
- Experience working in or with social enterprises in emerging markets is a plus;
- Completed or working toward a Master’s degree, in Business Administration, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Finance, or other related fields;

- Written and spoken fluency in English and a working knowledge of Spanish would be considered a plus;
- Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills.
