The Print Communications and Marketing Officer plays a key role in AWF’s print marketing and communications, focusing on innovative direct mail campaigns, fresh and new designs and formats, tried-and-true techniques, and creative list building.
The position is responsible for supporting fundraising and communications goals through innovative direct marketing campaigns, retention and upgrade planning, donor acquisition, and managing print partnerships.
Working with the Assistant Director and Director of Marketing and Membership this position helps plan and execute the annual mail schedule and offline campaigns, monitors campaign performance, as well as implementation of the membership program’s acknowledgement, fulfillment, and cultivation activities.
Responsibilities
Print Marketing and Fundraising
- Works closely with the entire marketing and membership team to plan and execute integrated offline membership campaigns.
- Identifies list selections to build AWF awareness and membership base.
- Serves as point of contact for asset selection and fact checking for offline fundraising materials.
Offline Campaign Development
- Looks for new, unique, and eye-catching ideas and campaigns to educate and inform audiences of AWF’s mission.
- Leverages interesting and effective package formats and tests to pilot new ideas and push AWF’s offline campaigns as much as possible.
- Oversees creative fundraising efforts including developing AWF’s symbolic adoptions, gift memberships, and safari partner program with direction from the Assistant Director and Director of Marketing and Membership.
- Works closely with Membership Service Associate to manage AWF’s participation in CFC, workplace giving, and EarthShare® efforts.
- Monitors AWF’s state registrations to ensure the organization’s ability to fundraise throughout the United States and in other growing international destinations.
- Works with AWF’s fundraising partner to implement telemarketing campaigns, assisting with script development and messaging, and monitoring success.
- Handles print production and approval process of AWF’s direct mail program.
- Assists in updating membership services and public outreach materials (i.e. brochures, decals) as needed.
Membership Data Support
- Ensures data integrity and movement across databases, vendors, and platforms with a keen eye on detail.
- Requests campaign data to fulfill offline campaigns including list plans, package splits, and mailing selects.
- Collaborates with Data Services Team on data request executions and QC reviews.
- Supports the maintenance of the current offline CRM module, Blackbaud Direct Marketing, and stays abreast of the latest technology to benefit AWF’s direct marketing efforts.
- Partners with Data Services Team as needed for donor coding updates, data imports, and ad-hoc reporting requests.
- Maintains the quality and accuracy of all data processing and personalization.
Offline Production and Marketing Management
- Executes all direct mail campaigns including securing final art approval, print production management, and mail shop quality control reviews.
- Maintains the quality and accuracy of all printed and mailed materials through each step of the production process from proofreading final copy/art and facilitating approvals, to press checks and mail shop oversight.
- Facilitates all administrative processes and relationships required for membership mailings such as postage requests and vendor account management.
- Reviews invoices with purchase orders, assists with reconciling costs, including facilitating monthly invoice processing and expensing of inventory as necessary.
- Assists in production and general distribution of all AWF print collateral including invitations, Annual Reports, newsletters, signage, etc.
- Serves as primary day-to-day contact for AWF’s caging, cashiering, and fulfillment vendors.
- Coordinates AWF’s branded merchandise including ordering, quality assurance, inventory control, distribution, and related expenses.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 3–5 year(s) of experience
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and ability to relate to people from various geographic and cultural backgrounds
- Demonstrated understanding of direct mail marketing, engagement campaigns, and creative development
- Strong familiarity with publication and print production including related tools and software
- Experience as point of contact with vendors and related relationship management
- Experience working with Blackbaud Direct Marketing and/or Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus
- Strong interest in design and emerging trends in direct marketing
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced collaborative environment while maintaining strict attention to detail
- Keen interest or experience in Africa’s wildlife, land, and people preferred, but not required
