Land O’Lakes is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Business Development services (BDS)/Marketing Manager on an anticipated livestock genetics improvement program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—Public-Private Partnership for Artificial Insemination Delivery (PAID) in East Africa. The future program’s goal is to help farmers access more improved and appropriate genetics—a key opportunity to improve production of milk and to tackle systemic poverty. With our private sector partners we will test and introduce new reproductive technologies (sexed semen, embryo transfer, in-vitro fertilization, etc.) to increase the supply of improved heifers.
The BDS/Marketing Manager will work with program stakeholders to promote sustainable, private-sector-led economic growth in the genetics sector in Tanzania. S/He will develop the BDS strategy and will coordinate the delivery of technical support for partners to build their business skills and promote new service delivery business models to increase calving and conception rates. S/he will identify constrains to improved Artificial Insemination (AI) service delivery and will help identify and engage new technicians while working with our partners on AI training and payment schemes. S/He will also be involved in the identification of private liquid nitrogen (LN) partners and support localized access and distribution. S/he will manage the BDS team including milkshed coordinators in close collaboration with the Country Director. S/He will provide daily management and oversight on BDS related technical assistance.
Qualifications:
• An advanced degree in management, business administration, economics, or related field (MBA preferred);
• Experience building the capacity of business associations and agricultural cooperatives in the livestock sector;
• Demonstrated experience developing a competitive, market-driven and sustainable BDS sector;
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working with micro, small and/or medium-size agribusinesses
• Minimum 5 years’ experience developing and/or reviewing feasibility studies and business plans, especially with firms in the agricultural sector;
• Experience conducting financial analysis and in business planning for agro-enterprises;
• Previous experience with the private sector is ideal;
• Well organized, detail-oriented and ability to work independently;
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).
