been working in Tanzania since 1974. Heifer International currently supports a
wide portfolio of livestock development projects including the East Africa Dairy Development (EADD-2)
; which is an ambitious five-year program designed to transform the lives of
resource poor farming families through a competitive and inclusive dairy value
chain in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
In light of
this, Heifer International Tanzania is in the course of recruiting project
staff for East Africa Dairy Development Project. The organization is seeking to
recruit Dairy Production Advisors and Communication Officer

DESCRIPTIONS OF CANDIDATE PROFILE AND POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
I.
COMMUNICATION OFFICER : Duty
station - Dar es Salaam
The ideal
candidate for the position of Communication Officer should have a University
Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or equivalent
professional / social science field. He/she should have 3to 5 years of
experience in field of communication and 2 years in supervisory capacity. Experience
in managing development communication will be an added advantage.
Excellent
knowledge in working with Desk Top Publishing program will be an added
advantage.
This position
will contribute to the internal and external communications activities of EADD
communications plan by producing varieties of educational and informative
materials concerning a broad range of topics falling within the EADD
communication and advocacy strategy.
Selection
criteria will include but not limited to;
Þ Minimum requisite academic and professional qualifications
Þ Outstanding proficiency in English and
Kiswahili
Þ Extensive and profound knowledge of Tanzania Media landscape
Þ Ability to produce accurate documents in a well-designed
and attractive format.
Þ Ability to cooperate effectively with project
partners and other organizations.
Þ Ability to produce high quality, well written
deliverables in a timely fashion.
Þ Ability to take digital photos and digital video
footage
Þ Excellent interpersonal skills to work

II.
DAIRY PRODUCTION ADVISORS : Duty Stations: - Mbeya, Iringa and Njombe
The ideal
candidate should have Bachelor of Science Animal Production or Science. Holders
of Diplomas in Animal Production or Animal Health and Husbandry with an
extensive will be considered. He/she should have experience with the
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) projects / programs and Understanding of the
dairy value Chain will be an added advantage.
Under the supervision of Senior Dairy Production Specialists, the Dairy
Production will facilitate and coordinate the planning and implementation of
all project activities including mobilizing dairy farmers into groups to build
the technical and organizational capacity of dairy farmers and Dairy Farmers’
Business Association or Cooperatives on improved dairy cattle husbandry in
order to increase production and productivity. In collaboration with Business
Development Advisors the dairy Production Advisors will facilitate linkages of
Dairy Farmers’ Business Association or Cooperatives with Private Service
Providers. The Dairy Production Advisors will be responsible for compilation
and packaging project implementation and other reports on production
components, prior to submission Senior Dairy Production Specialist through the
Cluster Team Leader. To achieve the duties effectively and, the Dairy
Production Advisors will collaborate with both private and public development
partners along the dairy value chain in their
areas of operations (clusters)
Selection
criteria this will include but not limited to;
Þ Proficiency in basic statistics sufficient to analyze data.
Þ Knowledge and experience in dairy value chains, agriculture, economic
development, animal husbandry, community development and overseas work in
Africa.
Þ Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Þ Excellent organizational and administrative skills including strong
attention to detail.
Þ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database and electronic mail
software (Microsoft preferred).
Þ Report writing skills, including proposals
Þ Financial or Budgetary skills and Problem solving skills
Þ Team player and able to work in a fast paced cross functional
environment
Þ Ability to produce accurate documents in a well designed and attractive
format.
Þ Strong English language skills – oral and written.
Þ Ability to develop and present training materials
