The Programme:
BBC Media Action is launching an exciting new radio programme – Niambie – that will provide a platform for young Tanzanians to examine the burning questions and challenges facing the youth today. Through a creative, energetic, youth-led radio programme, supported by dedicated web and social-media platforms, Niambie will actively engage young Tanzanians in conversation, encouraging them to participate in shaping the content and direction of the programme.
The Niambie programme will inspire and promote active citizenship amongst young Tanzanians. With an over-arching focus on encouraging young people to question their role in civic affairs and the wider national agenda, Niambie will enhance dialogue between the youth and leaders whilst examining the opportunities for young Tanzanians to engage in community life and influence change in wider society.
Job purpose:
BBC Media Action is looking for an experienced, creative and dynamic individual who understands the BBC editorial standards and how to implement them in programme output. The Producer/ Presenter will be entrusted with producing and presenting a programme of high editorial and technical quality.
Main Duties
• To create a tone and style of the radio output establishing a relationship with listeners, essentially ‘the voice of Niambie’
• Plan, rehearse shows where necessary and memorise scripts
• Introduce and host programmes
• Keep the programme running according to schedule
• Gather and verify factual information for topics through interviews, observation, and research (depending on the format).
• Organize material, determine slant or emphasis according to the prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Work cooperatively with the production team on assigned stories/topics.
• Assist the Content Producer in preparing the weekly/monthly topics of the programme
• Assist production staff in preparing content for the show’s multimedia platforms.
• Carry out a range of other production tasks, as well as deliver content for related websites or other media platforms
Desirable skills
• Experience in behaviour change communications projects, preferably in the health, governance or resilience/livelihoods sectors.
• Prior experience with internationally reputable Swahili broadcaster.

• A high level of IT skills - particularly good word-processing and data handling skills
• Ability to learn how to use a variety of recording equipment and to operate different radio studios
• Ability to present while operating studio controls and co-ordinating a range of simultaneous technical activities
• Ability to conduct effective internet research, use relevant computer software for audio editing, and, when necessary, to manipulate visual images or edit video, and upload all such material for use on websites
