SYSTEM CONTROL ENGINEERS (GRID OPERATIONS)(5 POSTS)
Reporting Office: Grid Control System- Ubungo.                        
Reports To: Principal Engineer ( Operations)
REF. NO. 01
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To oversee the smooth operation of the grid network in adherence to the short term and generation dispatch plan
Principal Accountabilities;
-In charge of the shifts and supervise Shift Operators (Grid Operations Controller)
-In charge of DTS simulation during the shifts and to foreseen that contingency violation as per simulator results are avoided as much as possible.
-Foresee that the power is economically dispatched by the aid of Decision Support System – DSS (Control Room Situation Awareness tool) during the shift.
-To coordinates all power system operations management activities during the shift which includes;
-Oversees on planned maintenance schedules through coordinated generation and transmission facilities outages to maintain system security of supply.
-Guide day to day operation dispatch plan in view of the generation plan and ensure smooth operation of grid network.
-Make follow up of system operation on economic utilization of generation resources and transmission capacity within security and quality of service constraints.
-To prepare Daily System Operation Report (DOR), weekly and Monthly reports and ensure always submitted on time.
-To advice on system performance improvement to ensure that the system is optimally run.
-To organize and provide continual educational training to shift Technician on the economical and efficient way of controlling the grid network by using available tools.
-To prepare daily, weekly, monthly and annual ahead notification for generation scheduling to the Independent Power Producers in accordance with operation procedures.
-To coordinate with supervisors of the grid substations to ensure correct and coordinated switching activities of the interconnected power system adhere to safety procedure.
-To guide the restoration of power system in case of failure and gathering disturbance information and prepare relevant reports.
-To gather daily, weekly and monthly operation data leading to compilation of Transfer Units.
-To perform any other duties as directed by Senior Grid Operation Engineer.
-Adhere to OHS Policy.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
Minimum Requirements;
A good BSc. degree or Equivalent in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering
Registration by ERB will be an added advantage
An exposure to Power System will be an added advantage
Ability to work on 24 hours shift, weekends and holidays to support “24/7” real time operations.

SUBSTATIONS ENGINEERS(6 POSTS)
Reporting Office: Grid Control System- Ubungo.                        
Reports To: Principal Substation Engineer
REF. NO. 02
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Supervision for Grid Electric Substation Works, resources and overseeing daily operations works to ensure that Electric power is transmitted to the grid from generation source to Distribution Bus bars and secondary Substation uninterrupted.
Also, to be responsible for the Control of TANESCO grid substation best operation practice by adherence to the following guiding rules/Procedures:
(i)   Substation Code (i.e. OSHA, etc) which is currently in force
(ii)  Current TANESCO Substation Operation Guidelines
(iii)  Current TANESCO Substation Operation Restoration Plan
(iv) Substation Compensators Switching Practice Philosophy/Guidelines
Principal Accountabilities;
-Supervise Grid substation shifts works and liaise closely with Grid Control Centre (GCC) to ensure healthily Power system.
-Participate in person during peak hours to ensure that load shedding if need arises is performed properly and as may be instructed by GCC.
-Ensure permits are issued for limitation of work originating from substation to ensure safety regulations are highly observed.
-Maintain an up- to date operational manuals and “As Built In” drawings for entire substation in order to ensure an efficient facilitated operation and maintenance of the system.
-Keep an inventory of all working tools, equipment and spares to ensure that are in order and in proper control.
-Produce a daily System Operation report to ensure the higher authority get informed for record and action.
•To evaluate Bus bar arrangements for your respective grid Substation forming part of the main Power Grid System for load flow and start circuit control in accordance with agreements with other interested parties
•To supervise the regulation of voltages and wattles power and maintain system frequency in coordination with power generation stations at your respective grid Substation.
•To control and sanction the issuance and cancellation of Permits (i.e. permit to works, limitation of access, sanction for test, hotline order, etc) and other related documents in the respective substations.
•To make sure that communication facilities in the Substation are in good working conditions.
•To prepare and submit detailed report for healthy of substation facilities to respective authorities as well as reporting any abnormal behaviour of system metering, substation equipments, protection, system control equipment, etc.
•To verify all instrument and meter reading as directed in the grid codes.
•To overview all switching procedures in the respective substations in accordance with the existing TANESCO guidelines /Grid codes including adherence to the public notice on outages.
•To promptly submit to the Principal Engineer Substation all operations reports of the substation (i.e. Daily, Monthly, quarterly, Annual, etc.).
•To plan, prepare yearly budget for your respective Substation focusing on the best operation practice and optimum use of the system.
•Ensure proper record keeping for your respective Substation.
•To perform other duties from time to time as shall be delegated by the Principal Engineer Substation.
•Adhere to Occupations, Health and Safety (OHS) Policy
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
Minimum Requirements;
Good BSc. degree or Equivalent in Electrical Engineering from recognized University/Institution.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Grid System monitoring to ensure that a continuous and reliable flow of electric power supply from generating plants to various places of grid destination and distribution points are maintained.  
Principal Accountabilities:
-Collect all necessary initial technical data in the daily log sheets and defect register book.
-Issue permits to work, limitation of access, sanction of test after proper Isolation of equipment at switch yard before people start working to ensure highest safety standards are observed and maintained all the times in order to preserve life and property.
-Maintain close liaison with Grid Control centre (SCADA), Generating plants stations and other grid substation Operators to ensure smooth restoration of power supply in case of System power failure.
-Report a day recorded shift events to System control Supervisor to ensure the higher authority get informed for record and action.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
Minimum Requirements;
FTC in Electrical Engineering or holder of ( Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering) NTA level 6 from a recognized Institute
Working experience will be an added advantage
Ability to work outside normal hours, weekends and holidays to support “24/7” real time operations.

PROTECTION ENGINEERS (3 POSTS)
Reporting Office: Zonal office( North East, South West,& Central)                        
Reports To: Zonal Principal Engineer
REF. NO. 01
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Execution of all protection activities and ensuring proper protection system functioning for the Grid and isolated plants. Monitoring the performance of the grid, proper maintenance of the power system equipments, on time rectification of system defects in order to maintain availability and reliability of power supply.
Principal Accountabilities:
-To test and maintain protective relaying and control devices in the grid ,distribution and isolated networks according to preventive maintenance schedule to ensure that all device are healthy and functioning reliably
-To maintain properly documentation and database of all installed protective devices to ensure that all information are available when required
-To analyze fault records of system outage and submit the findings to Principal Protection Engineer for further action in order to ensure that the performance of grid system is not impaired
-To liaise with other company departments involved in planning and designing to ensure that the protection philosophy is maintained
-To analyze power system loading regularly in coordination with grid control center and give advice where protection philosophy application is violated to ensure the elements of power system are well protected
-To run load flow studies for purpose of determine relay settings to ensure there is proper coordination
-To monitor performance of the Grid, analyze occurrence of interruptions on daily basis and advice operations personnel where necessary
-To maintain and repair testing equipment and make sure that they are calibrated and comply to laid down IEC regulations
-To attend emergency troubleshooting of major equipment failure in the grid
-Carry out commissioning of electrical equipment in the grid system
-Prepare test protocols for protective devices and elements of power system
-Identify and advice the Company on training needs and opportunities for staff under the department to effect capacity building
-Perform any other duties as will be assigned

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Execution of all planned maintenance works of protection schemes in plants, grid & distribution substations, with objective of ensuring smooth operation of power system within the grid and off Grid network.
Principal Accountabilities:
-Inspect, test power system protection schemes including relays to ascertain their condition and operation status.
-Prepare cost estimates and works orders for planned maintenance works of power systems protection equipment.
-Execute properly preventive maintenance works in a planned time to ensure proper equipment operation and hence system protection.
-Respond promptly to emergence calls during emergence system faults to ensure such situations are contained within minimum time possible to minimize time outage.
-Perform proper commissioning of new installations as per required standards   to ensure proper systems operations.
-Keep maintenance records, equipment status updating and observe reporting system to ensure a good data base and communication system.
-Observe safety regulations and working procedures to ensure accidents to people and equipment are avoided
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS

WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER (1 POST)
Reporting Office:   Head Office.
Reports To: Principal Engineering Power Development
REF. NO. 01
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To undertake all activities on water resources and hydrology, specifically relating to hydropower planning, development and operations.
Principal Accountabilities:
-Undertake collection, processing   and analysis of hydrological, meteorological and energy data for the company’s projects and for energy master plans.
-Participate in the maintenance of an up to date record/data base of hydrological, meteorological and other related data for all rivers of interest to hydro power development.
-Participate in hydropower studies at prefeasibility and full feasibility levels executed either independently or jointly with external consultants and ensure proper and timely completion of studies.
-In collaboration with other relevant company departments assist in devising appropriate water management strategies and policies for the efficient operation of the company’s hydropower installations.
-Participate in planning and design of hydraulic structures in close cooperation with Design Engineers.
-Participate in water resources related research activities with other institutions.
-Liaise with the ministry responsible for water, the directorate of meteorology and other agencies dealing with/ or monitoring the country’s basins.
-Review the studies carry out on behalf of the company by external consultants and ensure that they conform to acceptable standards.
-Provide support in form of conducting investigations and or studies that may be required during the detailed design, construction as well as operation phases.
-In collaboration with relevant departments undertake monitoring and evaluation on the performance of civil structures for completed hydropower projects.
-Prepare hydropower/ water resources engineering information and materials for the TANESCO website
-Prepare timely, accurately and quality technical and other reports.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
MSc. Water Resources Engineering with at least 3 years progressive working experience. OR BSc. Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification with at least 5 years experience in water resources field.
Demonstrated competence in fields of hydropower and water resources engineering.
OTHER ATTRIBUTES FOR ALL POSTS:
Ability to learn fast and adapt to changes. Willingness and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
