Top Third Ventures (TTV) is seeking a Product Development Engineer to join a cutting-edge, 3rd generation efficient stove startup with unparalleled focus and dedication to our BoP customers. The engineer will work on product design across East Africa. Successful applicants are less business-minded and more creative: bringing disruptive, out-of-the-box thinking to Top Third Ventures in order to tackle some of the developing world's main challenges, e.g. climate change, female empowerment, and forest degradation.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience designing efficient stoves for the developing world and a strong materials and manufacturing background. Understanding that each product must satisfy local cultural nuances and the ability to immerse oneself in various cultures quickly is a must. You need to be able to spend considerable time in rural villages and urban slums to comprehend how our customers live, think, and prepare food, then incorporate this knowledge into the product design. Familiarity with the principals of the Water Boiling Test (www.pciaonline.org/testing), heat transfer, and combustion of wood fuels is essential. A successful TTV Product Development Engineer is a team player, with excellent communication (and listening) skills, who always says exactly what is on their mind.

The position is full-time and based out of Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel.
Requirements:
- Proficient with AutoCAD and other industrial design software
- Creative, Out-of-the-Box thinking
- Experience in a start-up environment
- Undergraduate degree in engineering (graduate degree in anything that helps you do your job highly desired)
- At least one year of experience in a similar position, preferably in a developing country
- A high level of integrity
- Exceptional written and oral communication
- Project management skills (documentation, organization, scheduling)
- Fluency in written and spoken English; other languages a plus
