Duty Station: The Court is to move to Khartoum, Sudan, its permanent location in due course. Currently, it is temporarily located at COMESA Centre, Lusaka, Zambia
Key Tasks
Under the overall supervision of the President of the Court of Justice, the Registrar shall perform the following duties and be responsible for the day to day administration of the Court:
a) Preparation of the budget of the Court;
b) Carrying out all the public relations of the Court;
c) Keeping all the accounts of the Court;
d) Having custody of the seal and official stamp of the Court;
e) Having custody of all the records and archives of the Court;
f) Examine documentation submitted to the Court to establish authenticity and adequacy;
g) Transmit documents to the members of the Court, to other member States and to the Secretary-General;
h) Be responsible for the interpretation from one language to another of speeches and statements made before the Court and for the preparation of shorthand notes of oral proceedings;
i) Be present at all sittings of the Court and be responsible for drawing up the minutes of the hearing;
j) Prepare and keep up-to-date the Cause List or Advisory Opinion;
k) Prepare the draft Rules of Court or any subsequent amendments thereto for consideration and adoption by the Court; and
l) Carry out any other duties that may be assigned to him/her by the Treaty, the Rules of Court, the President or any other Judge of the Court.
Minimum Qualifications
- A person who qualifies in his/her respective Member State to hold high judicial office and who is a national of a Member State.
- Hold a minimum of a first degree in Law (such as LLB) from a recognized University and is a registered legal practitioner in any member State.
- A postgraduate degree in Law shall be an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- The person should have at least 15 years experience in law;
- Experience in performing administrative functions shall be an advantage.
- Experience or familiarity with international law and international trade law and in advising on economic integration, will be an advantage.
Working Language: Must be fluent in English and/or French and/or Arabic (speaking and writing). A

Other Requirements
Must be of high Integrity and excellent Character: Each Applicant must, therefore, provide the particulars and contacts of three (3) Referees, to attest to the Applicant’s integrity, character, and professional ability and standing.
Eligibility for Application
Applicants must be citizens of a COMESA Member country qualified to hold high judicial office in their own respective countries (in terms of Article 41 of the Treaty establishing the COMESA Court of Justice).
