Position Title: Field Veterinary/Animal health officer
Project : Common Humanitarian Funds (CHF)
Duty station: South Sudan
Duration: 6 months (Renewable)

ROLE; Under the supervision of Assistant Project Manager, the Veterinary/Animal Health Officer will implement, monitor and supervise CHF field vet activities in accordance with VSF -Belgium and donor standards and guidelines.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY FUNCTIONS
Field Project establishment and management:
• Jointly with other team members develop field project activity plans i.e. quarterly and monthly
• Establish, promote and strengthen community based animal health structure in collaboration with CDO
• Ensure Programme implementation in accordance with VSF-B and MARF livestock Programme standards and guidelines.
• Conduct livestock project needs assessments.
• Carry out animal health training for all cadres of animal health workers
• Carry out community meetings and workshops together with CDO.
• Ensure adequate veterinary inputs are available in field and distributed to AHWs
• Assist the animal health workers to develop work plans.
• Monitor and supervisor community based animal health structure
Field project inputs and resource management
• Responsible and accountable for all VSF-B project resources in the field location
• Develop quarterly project inputs supply planner and ensure the supplies are supplied accordingly.
• Ensuring the proper control and store keeping of project input and resources
• Ensure prudent use and reporting of field finances
Field monitoring and evaluation:
• Ensure the CHF monitoring structure and tools are used in monitoring animal workers activities
• Collect CHF data in the prescribed formats for monthly reports
• Provide assessment report and situation reports from field locations
• Regular and timely reporting to the CHF Assistant Project Manager
Field staff management
• Responsible for staff in the location and ensure security protocols are followed
Field liaison
• Establish and maintain good rapport with community, local authorities and other agencies on the ground.
• Responsible to the beneficiaries to have their views incorporated in all plans and activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Degree in Veterinary medicine, animal health sciences or equivalent
• Additional qualifications in community development would be an added advantage
Knowledge and experience
• At least four years veterinary field experience
• At least three years experience implementing livestock related and community based animal health projects in pastoral areas
• Experience in facilitation of livestock development activities
• Experience in managing curative and disease control strategies in pastoralist communities
• Knowledge of the guidelines for CAHW training and support
• Experience working with a livestock NGO would be an advantage
