Job Summary: National 4-H Council seeks an experienced, entrepreneurial professional to lead and expand Council’s global initiatives to build the capacity and capabilities of 4-H professionals and volunteers around the world to deliver high quality positive youth development programs. The successful candidate will work with National 4-H Council, partners at USDA/NIFA and partner countries. A key role will be to develop and execute Council’s global business plan and support the network of global 4-H programs. The successful candidate will report directly to the President and CEO of National 4-H Council, and must be available for full time work and extensive travel.
About 4-H Global: 4-H programs have taken root in more than 70 countries in North, South, and Central America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. World-wide, 4-H programs operate autonomously but all share the goal of improving the lives of millions of young people and their families. Around the world, 4-H has been proven an effective tool for agricultural and economic development. 4-H “graduates” will have skills that enable them to craft a sustainable livelihood for themselves and their families, and will enter adulthood ready to serve as catalysts for positive change in their communities.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
o Partner with President and CEO of National 4-H Council to develop business plan, annual budget and multiyear financial projections for Council’s global work.
o Direct tactical implementation of and reporting on the global business plan.
o Lead organizational development in the global arena.
o Apply diplomacy and conflict transformation skills to collaborative and shared governance processes.
o Consult with SVP of Marketing/Chief Marketing Officer to develop global brand, messaging and communications strategies for all key stakeholders, including USDA/NIFA, Council’s Board of Trustees and staff, the 4-H system and global partners.
o Serve as liaison to the USDA/NIFA Center for International Programs.
Fundraising
o Partner with Vice President of Resource Development to develop case statements for social capital investments to support global 4-H work.
o Support fundraisers in cultivating, soliciting, recognizing and reporting to donors.
Management
o Develop and manage Council’s annual global capital and operating budget.
o Direct grant making and selection of consultants on contracts related to global 4-H.
o Demonstrate human resources expertise in managing diverse multicultural staff, volunteers and consultants in multiple locations.
o Direct development of tools and systems for monitoring and evaluation, and impact measurement.
o Supervise the Manager, Global Projects and the Specialist, Global Projects, encourage continuous learning and professional development, and provide regular performance evaluations.
o Collaborate with 4-H Canada to sustain and grow global web presence and online resources (particularly the Global 4-H Knowledge Center).
Program and Network Development
o Translate global strategic objectives into regional strategies and direct annual work plans for Council and its partners.
o Collaborate with network countries to implement and evaluate regional strategies.
o Lead global partnership development.
Qualifications:
o Professional experience in different cultural contexts required.
o Experience working in the youth development field a plus.
o Master in international development/relations, education, nonprofit management or international MBA or related field required.
o Minimum 10 years of professional experience in multicultural and dynamic leadership roles.
o Demonstrated success in working in a team environment.
o Success as a leader or social entrepreneur in an organizational start-up or turn around.
o Goal-oriented and proficient in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
o Excellent project management skills.
o Must be a self-starter with strong leadership and management skills.
o Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
o Fluency in multiple languages a plus. Immediate priorities: Korean and South American Spanish.
o Superior interpersonal skills and problem resolution skills.
o Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
