Short Term Personal Services Contractor: Education Technical Trainer
BACKGROUND
The Peace Corps is an independent U.S. Government agency that sends American volunteers around the world to aid countries to fulfill their development needs. The three goals of the Peace Corps are:
To help the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men and women;
To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of peoples served;
To help promote a better understanding of other people on the part of Americans.
The Peace Corps currently operates in 74 countries, with over 8,000 American volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Peace Corps originally opened its program in Rwanda in 1974, working for 20 years before closing its offices in 1993. It reopened its program in 2008 and Peace Corps Volunteers are currently working in two sectors (Education and Community Health). We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is a team player and self-starter with moral integrity to fill this vacancy.

BASIC FUNCTION
The Technical Trainer works closely with the Director of Programming & Training (DPT), the Training Manager (TM), the Program Manager/Education (PM), the Programming & Training Assistant/ Education (PTA) and the Peace Corps training staff to design, coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate an integrated 12-week "Pre-service" training (PST) aimed at preparing Peace Corps Trainees to teach English and train teachers in secondary schools in Rwanda. Specifically, s/he will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the technical component of the training (i.e., Secondary English teaching and English teacher training), including planning, organizing, conducting, assessing and documenting all relevant technical training sessions.
The Technical Trainer will play an active role in mentoring and working closely with the PTA to motivate and monitor Trainees' progress toward the fulfillment of defined training objectives. S/he will provide regular and timely feedback to each Trainee regarding performance and progress, sharing this information in a timely manner with relevant Training and Program staff. Additionally, s/he will accurately document all feedback provided to individual Trainees and ensure that this information is kept in the appropriate Trainee's file. The Technical Trainer will maintain open lines of communication with the TM and other relevant Peace Corps staff. Finally, the Technical Trainer will model a comportment and conduct that is professional and corresponds with of Peace Corps' training and development philosophy and approaches.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge:
Excellent communication skills; excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet; knowledge of training instruction principles, practices, techniques, and procedures.Abilities and Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills/relationships with colleagues, Trainees, Volunteers, and supervisors; ability to develop and implement training instruction programs; ability to meet and deal with others; ability to communicate effectively other than in writingEducation:
Bachelor's Degree in arts with five or more years of experience in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and proven experience in English teacher training, familiarity and/or work experience with transitioning to English as a medium of instruction in general, and ideally, within a Rwanda's context; local knowledge on integrating ICT into education. Graduate level education (Master's) from an accredited college or university with a major in TEFL education or in a subject area related to the position would be an added value.Language Proficiency:
