ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) beyond 2014 Secretariat
Organizational Setting:
Under the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge (O-I-C) of the ICPD beyond 2014 Secretariat and with the guidance from the Internet/Multimedia Manager, Media and Communications Branch/IERD, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Provide content, design and technical guidance and support to all facets of the day-to-day operation of the global web site on the ICPD beyond 2014 processes. • Provide guidance and liaise with counterparts (including Country Offices, UN System, partners, donors, etc.) to encourage the submission of timely information, including text, feature stories, videos, dispatches and press releases for internal and external uses. • Guide and assist contributors with editorial and publishing-related issues and make placement recommendations (internal or external online and off line communication platforms). • Identify and assess visual and multimedia elements to complement content submissions. • Review and establish links to other parts of the global and regional websites, as well as to other websites, search engines, social media channels where appropriate. • Administer the web Content Management System (CMS) including managing user accounts, page rights, approval and publishing work flows, meta data taxonomy, archives, etc. • Manage online communication, social media and multimedia projects and provides direction and coordinate the activities of web designers, programmers and technical support service providers. • Provide architecture, design and user interface guidance and support for new and existing web applications related to the ICPD and MDG modules. • Upload content in a timely manner including: selecting, captioning and editing photographs, assigning appropriate keywords and proper categories by theme, geographic area, language and publication type. • Analyse the effectiveness of communications through traffic reports and other feedback mechanisms, and develop enhancements and new features as directed.
• Maintain email distribution lists for alerting audiences about new material. • Participate in short- and long-term planning of the organization’s global web network. Assist in on-going evaluation of web site software and hardware to ensure the continued and future effectiveness and efficiency of the web site.

Job Requirements:
• Advanced university degree in journalism, communications, management information systems or related fields. • Five years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional experience, including work in print and online communication. The four years must show progressively increasing levels of skill requirements and complexity of work. • Outstanding research, writing and editing skills, with an ability to produce a high volume of engaging articles and news items. • Proven ability to write lively and engaging online content. • Sound editorial judgment, sensitivity to the issues of UNFPA and strong sense of design. • Significant experience in guiding web Content Management Systems. • Experience and knowledge of both the technology and human factors behind social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr. • Proficiency in English required. Knowledge of an additional UN language an asset.
