Principal Economist (Investment & Private Sector Promotion)
The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda with its Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.

Organ / Institution: The Secretariat
Duty Station: Arusha, Tanzania
Job Grade: P3
Job reports to: Director, Planning
To coordinate the harmonisation, development and implementation of investment policies and strategies in the EAC region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Co-ordinate formulation and harmonization of regional investment policies and strategies;
Advise Partner States and other stakeholders on the harmonisation of agreed investment policy framework;
Establish a mechanism for monitoring implementation of agreed investment policies and strategies;
Coordinate and monitor the implementation and follow up of Council decisions relating to investment and private sector development issues;
Facilitate research and studies relating to investment and private sector promotion; and
Prepare annual progress reports to the Council
Qualifications and Experience:
A Masters Degree in Economics, Economic Policy and Planning, Policy Management, Development Economics, Business Administration or an equivalent degree from a recognised University/Institution.
10 years of relevant experience with 5 years at Senior level in the field of investment and or private sector management and development.
Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency in computer applications, strong interpersonal, presentation, networking, team building, analytical, project management and planning, negotiation, monitoring and evaluation and communication skills are highly desirable.
Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
Relevant Work Experience:
Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.

Terms and Conditions of Service:
The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once and is subject to the application of the EAC Quota System.
