Civil Engineer (Job Ref: CEl07/1-5)
Position summary
The Civil Engineer is responsible for assisting in the overall planning, organization and monitoring of the water and sewerage infrastructure assets, ensuring their compliance to set standards.
Reporting Requirements
The Civil Engineer shall reports to the Programme Delivery Manager.
Keys responsibilities will include:
Compiling information and projections to aid in the preparation of the unit annual budget;
Monitoring and established budget and utilizes authorized budget according the organisation regulations;
Preparing division plans and specifications, engineering studies and cost estimates for maintenance of the water and sewerage infrastructure facilities;
Providing engineering and technical services to support the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of utility systems;
Providing oversight for contracted utility projects and services;
Regularly inspects work sites to ensure progress and compliance with the organisation standards of quality and contract terms and conditions;
Maintaining cooperative relations and coordinates department activities with peer agencies and other departments;
Attends meetings, conducting research, compiling information, completing special projects and various reports, and makes presentations.
Ensuring coordinated work assignments and project planning related to the operation and maintenance of the organisation's assets (water and sewerage systems) working with field staff;
lmplementing safety awareness programmes in accordance with the organisation policy, instructs employees on safety standards, precautionary procedures and divisional policies and procedures;
Advising the Management through the head of department on matters relating to the water treatment plants and water transmission mains as well as sewerage infrastructure performance, ensuring smooth operations and good utilization of manpower in the water treatment plants.
Establishing and implement well-defined emergency and contingency plans and procedures working with the Programme Delivery team;
Liaising with other external authorities on electrical matters and advises the Programme Delivery Manager accordingly;
Preparing engineering design and AutoCAD drawings for new projects, review designs and reports received from consultants organizes ;and
Attending site meetings and coordinate consultant's contractor activities; and
Carrying out review of construction reports and payment claims
Key Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineer majoring in water resources with hands on knowledge and experience in water supply and sewerage facilities.
Relevant registration with Engineers Registration Board (ERB)
Five (5) years post qualification experience in civil engineering preferably in water supply and sewerage facilities. required Attributes
Proficiency in Microsoft applications
Self-motivated, team player, interpersonal skills, integrity, results oriented and innovative.
Competency in AUTOCAD, GIS and other relevant Engineering programmes.
Expert in supervision of large contracts and conversant with FIDIC conditions of contracts
