Job Title: Awareness Creation Specialist
Job Type:2 Months Enrollment  for Capacity Building Training,  3 Months Volunteer and 3 Years Contract
Job Country Stations: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi
Job Positions Available: 40 Tanzania, 40 Kenya, 30 Uganda, 30 Rwanda, 30 Burundi , 40 South Sudan (Total: 220)
Program Description
Scientist International Organization (SIO) is a dedicated international NGO operating worldwide to identify and support young scientists, science students, teachers and science institutions and schools. SIO works with various stakeholders and individuals to achieve its program objectives. SIO enroll and train voluntary scholars worldwide, allow the individuals to volunteer with SIO and providing an opportunity for only capable and dedicated volunteers to get employed under SIO. SIO only employ volunteers who have proved outstanding involvement and ability to learn new things.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct science campaigns and mobilization gathering to educate community about science applicability in the modern world.
  • Mobilizing and sensitizing community on the importance of science studies in the current world
  • Facilitating of the networking and relationship building with various stakeholders
  • Organizing and facilitating local documentation and dissemination of scientific findings and good practices to local stakeholders and communities
  • Facilitating mobilization, training/workshops and running of community awareness activities about science in their assigned areas.
  • To facilitate study dialogues among the community young science students and scholars and successful science entrepreneurs and professionals
  • Facilitating and supporting the community in linking up with the established local science clubs and platforms established for nurturing young scientist.
  • Facilitate establishment of local public laboratories to be used by science students in the areas
  • Conduct mobilization and formation of students’ science groups and science clubs in primary and secondary schools.
  • Organize and coordinate various science clubs and groups’ trainings and the follow up with mentoring and support with relevant support.
  • Undertake regular field monitoring of project interventions.
  • Develop and submit progress reports on timely manner and as per the donors and sponsors agreement.
  • Any other duties that may be allocated to him or her by the country program manager.
 
Job Qualification and Requirements
  • All successful applicants must be ready and willing to enroll for special science guidance TOT Trainings
  • Graduate from high school, Certificate, Diploma or Degree level in any science related subjects will have a great chance of being selected for the job.
  •  But also graduates from the following areas of expertise can apply.(community development, sociology, rural planning and development, education, business administration, marketing, procurement, mass communication or journalism, public relation, social well fare, project planning and management)
  • Applicants with teaching background and competent teaching skills are highly advised to apply.
  • You must not be under current full time employment when applying, because time appropriation might hinder our projects’ success.
  • Applicants with talents and skills (e.g art, music, football and netball) will be added advantage
  • Applicants must be innovative and creative.
  • Proven organizational, analytical, negotiating, communication (oral and written) and training skills
  • Knowledge of local language and sensitivity to culture is very necessary.
  • Applicants must be flexible to be assigned job station anywhere in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.
  • Community mobilization and sensitization skills, Team player skills, Cross cultural and Inter-personal skills, Leadership skills, Communication skills, Problem solving skills and Computer Skills.
Salary and Other Packages
1st Month - 2th Month -Enrollment for and Science Capacity Building Trainings and workshops
Salary/Packages:  Organization will provide meals and accommodation, health services and security. Also the organization will provide learning materials, certificate of training, data collection software. All the materials and services are offered in kind, we don’t give cash money to the trainee, this is because majority of the services and materials are given by our local sponsors and donors in-kind. Only Certified applicant/trainee shall be allowed to volunteer and finally get employed.
 
 
3rd Month – 5th Month                        - Volunteerism for experience and mentoring
Salary/Packages: We don’t pay salary to volunteers, but rather we only facilitate our volunteers so that they can work smoothly towards reaching project goals

We offer the following to the volunteers:
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner/ Per Diem $19 paid on monthly basis (WORKING DAYS ONLY)
  • Communication: $ 3 per day per each working day
  • Accommodation: $16 - $20 depending on the project area e.g city or district/county
  • The organization will cover for all field transport costs and cross-border transport costs.
6th Month 2014 – 6th Month 2017      - Employment Contract to work for SIO in the country of choice among the listed countries above
After volunteering period is over, volunteers who have proven outstanding performance and hardworking will all be given contract of employment to work in any of the mentioned east African countries

Salary/Other packages: 
$ 1250 per month (Gross Salary); 20 working days and 10 leave days. Health/Dental Insurance,  Social Protection per each countries’ guidelines, security and paid leave

Selection and Training Procedure
  • Applications will be processed immediately after being received, even before deadline
  • All applications will be reviewed and assessed against the required set criteria and job requirements
  • Successful Applicants shall and will be contacted via email and shall be requested to Enroll for Independent Science Capacity Building Training Session for Facilitators.
  • Only those who will enroll for Training shall be approved for the training and volunteering stage.
  • Others who will not be able to meet the required training criteria their names shall be replaced with other pending applicants…
  • The training shall be conducted in all countries as shown here below
Dar es salaam-Tanzania: Successful applicants will be notified of the venue and date
Kigali- Rwanda:   Successful applicants will be notified of the venue and date
Nairobi - Kenya:  Successful applicants will be notified of the venue and date
Bujumbura-Burundi:  Successful applicants will be notified of the venue and date
Juba-South Sudan:  Successful applicants will be notified of the venue and date
