Our vision is of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes and where visually impaired people participate equally in society. Each year, we improve the lives of millions of people in the poorest parts of the world.
Epidemiologists, DFID Trachoma Mapping Project (2-year fixed term contracts)
Based in Ethiopia and a sub-Saharan Africa trachoma endemic country
Local terms and conditions will apply
In the effort to eliminate blinding trachoma by the year 2020, Sightsavers is working in collaboration with a network of partners to build capacity and conduct around 1,300 trachoma prevalence surveys where still needed in targeted countries over a three year period.
We are now looking for two Epidemiologists to develop capacity in targeted countries for conducting surveys; train a network of epidemiologists in different countries to conduct surveys; provide supervision to those trained; carry out monitoring and evaluation of activities, and conduct operational research.
Qualified to Master’s degree level in epidemiology, medical statistics or public health, the successful candidates will bring sound practical experience of epidemiological and health system research. You will need to be reactive and responsive to data from the field and will assist in the development, application, expansion, and refinement of the trachoma mapping project.
In particular, you will be skilled in training fieldworkers with the ability to motivate and work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. As well as fluency in English, additional language skills are desirable. Hands-on exposure in Africa and willingness to travel on a regular basis are also essential.
Closing date: Wednesday, 10 October 2012
