Regional Advanced Economic Security (EcoSec) Trainers Nairobi / Abidjan with frequent travel
Main Objective
The Regional EcoSec Advanced Trainer is the reference person for all capacity building and training activities on EcoSec-related matters for the countries of the Regions covered. S/he makes the liaison with Headquarters' Capacity Building Focal Point and with EcoSec specialists involved in the various subject matters, in order to ensure consistency across the various Delegations.
S/he ensures that capacities of EcoSec staff and partners are built on priority areas identified in the EcoSec 2012-2015 Strategy and required for the effective and efficient implementation of EcoSec activities in the field.
Responsibilities
Operational support
• Contribute to the identification of Trainers in the various Delegations and organize specific trainings for them on newly developed EcoSec topics such as sampling, data analysis, and integration of market and nutrition into EcoSec activities, so that they can train others
• When necessary (e.g. in the absence of a Trainer), directly facilitate trainings on the newly developed EcoSec topics, together with the relevant Headquarters or regional EcoSec specialists or with consultants, including: o planning and budgeting with the Delegations; o ensuring adequate selection of participants and the contribution of required specialists; o organizing the venue, equipment and other material; o ensuring records are kept of all learning activities and contribute to other reporting as required.
• Guide and support Delegations, particularly EcoSec Trainers, to: o assess the training needs of staff as well as partners (e.g. National Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies and partners engaged in remote management operations), and to evaluate progress; o select priority staff for training or coaching; o develop country-adapted training materials and guidance; o ensure the necessary follow-up of trainees on the application of new skills.
• If appropriate and responding to a demand, set-up and animate a peer-to-peer forum of exchange on EcoSec training and capacity building matters in order to share experience and tools.
• If appropriate, organize a Workshop of Trainers in the Regions, for stocktaking on the main challenges and identification of ways forward.
Thematic/specialist support
Using inputs from relevant EcoSec specialists at Geneva Headquarters and regional (Nairobi, Abidjan) levels, and in consultation with them:
• Develop user-friendly technical guidance sheets on relevant selected EcoSec items • Adapt and incorporate relevant guidance and examples into existing EcoSec training packages and documents at basic level • Prepare different forms of training support material for advanced level, such as classroom-based presentations and e-learning packages • Ensure that the technical guidance sheets and other guidance and training material are regularly updated based on experience, changing needs and lessons learnt • Establish linkages with agencies, networks and other mechanisms that are building capacities and developing training materials in EcoSec-related fields
Selection requirements
• Master-level or above in international affairs, humanitarian affairs, pedagogy/teaching, or in a technical domain related to EcoSec (e.g. information management, agronomy, nutrition). • At least 5 years of practical field and hands-on experience in relief and livelihood interventions in a humanitarian context. • Proven experience with the development of training material and conduct of trainings for audiences at different levels of expertise (beginner, advanced), including Training of Trainers. • Fluency in English and French, both orally and in writing. • Ability and willingness to travel for short periods frequently throughout the year (about 60 %). • Prepared to accept unaccompanied posting during the first 24 months of collaboration • Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software • Driving licence (must cover manual transmission – a license for automatic-transmission vehicles only is not sufficient)
Desirable
• ICRC experience, particularly with the Economic Security (highly desirable). • Arabic speaking and writing.
